31 Jun 18 Comment The flow of the water has been well captured and the composition with the opposing falls works well. Sound though the image is I am left wondering what is above the top of the image.

As has been mentioned the foreground rock is a little dark towards the corner of the image and I would second Guy's comment re. Shadows/highlights. It is an adjustment that I frequently use in finessing an image.

31 Jun 18 Comment A great feeling of atmosphere in this very simple composition with the receding far bank giving depth to the image. Jun 22nd
31 Jun 18 Comment A very different image - well seen and full of interesting shapes, especially the lamp post.Great processing to retain the gloss on the paintwork.
I wonder if cropping off the light area from the base and maybe even up to just below the door handle and from the right hand side strengthens the image - very subjective of course!

31 Jun 18 Comment Ian - An uncanny likeness, but I guess that is to be expected from a tribute band.Clearly works well in mono and the subdued background makes him stand out and grab the viewer's eye. That said his left shoulder with the drape does tend to merge in with the background. A minor niggle - his outstretched arm is rather close to the edge of the frame. Jun 10th
31 Jun 18 Reply Thanks Ian - The Photo Travel image which gained the awards was in colour and clearly could not be flipped and, as the title remains the same for Open Colour, not permissible either I think. The same may not apply to the mono version for which a different title is currently permitted and in this case is the same with BW added. But as I said flipping the image puts the key feature of the glacier in the wrong place! Jun 10th
31 Jun 18 Reply Flipping the image works fine in the lower half and may be even stronger, but puts the glacier to the top left - anyone familiar with this iconic location would immediately know that it had been flipped. I am all for flipping images if a stronger image results, but not at iconic locations with key features. Jun 9th
31 Jun 18 Comment John - a straightforward pattern picture which I find lacks any real interest or focal point. The patterning left by the tyre tracks is not strong enough to hold my attention. Jun 2nd
31 Jun 18 Comment Hi Ella - top class portraits seem to be your forte at present and this is another fine example which I like very much - up to a point! Your processing is spot on - the mid grey background so necessary and the treatment to the face has given it the look of porcelain while retaining some tonal variation to keep the shape and moulding in that area.

So far so good, but I feel that the blotchy nature of the shoulders, etc does not sit well with the facial tones and requires similar attention.
