An image which does not immediately appeal to me, but which becomes more appealing with Ian's edit and suggestion of darkening down the top LHC.
The one element which does catch my attention is the face in the log (centered around the eye in case you missed it!) |

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments above - the slight distortion in the reflections adds feeling to the image, but I wonder what is below the figures who are literally standing on the edge of the frame. |

I echo the comments made above - great detail and texture and I like the offset set of planks which break up the symmetry of the rest of the image. Your HDR processing is spot on in revealing just enough of the interior to complete the 'story'. |

A strong image in which you have captured the flow of the water very well. The strong diagonal of the falls works well in leading the eye across the image and I guess this was not an easy image to capture successfully in what, I guess, is strong sunlight.
For my taste the strong contrast in the sky does not sit well with the diffusion on the mountains in the background and IMHO would benefit the image by being reduced a little. |

If the image was mine I would certainly use it in competition. |

Ella - a very strong portrait processed to near perfection. A super pose and expression and the soft lighting from the right serves to enhance the moulding and detail in the face and hat.
Your choice of a graduated grey background is spot on - the image would not be as strong with a black background. I can't help but notice that there is a slightly light area in the background on the LHS adjacent to his face up to the rim of the hat - you may consider this comment to be a little picky, but it is there!
For display on a black background the black stroke line gets lost - white or grey perhaps, but not really needed at all. |

Ian - the image works well in mono and your processing has given it a sense of mystery. For me the tonal range is spot on and the facial tones help draw the eye to that area. I agree with Paul that the face does seem to be a little blotchy, but that may simply be the texture of the skin. The make up spots on the cheekbone are perhaps a little distracting.
I'm not too sure about losing the lower legs and feet completely - just a hint of detail as in her left arm might be beneficial - very subjective of course! |
