Paul - Patagonia was on my bucket list for some time, but the expense ruled it out of court. I will be honest and say that I find the image a little bland even though the threatening sky adds a powerful dimension, but the mountain range is not particularly special. On another day with some strong differential lighting to give some drama I feel that the image would have more to offer. |

Paul - always subjective and affected by monitor settings, but I have tweaked the image by reducing the opacity of a white layer in Soft Light mode by 10% and drawn back the blacks a tad on a Curve - result below ... |

Ed - no issues with scanned images, the final output is digital. The image has a feeling of remoteness, neglect and decay. For me the subject matter is a little bland and not strong enough to hold my interest, but each to his/her own of course! |

Rashid - a strong portrait in which the character of the subject comes over well. The slight tilt of the head is very effective. I find the out of focus fur at the top of the image a little distracting - too out of focus for my taste and would benefit from cropping - see below. If a crop does not appeal to you then the hair(?) protruding into the top of the image top right should be cloned out IMO. |

Ian - Yet another superb portrait, great expression and processed to perfection. Far from busy IMO - the highlights on the coat add shape and texture. That's a winner all the way to the Bank!
Minor niggles - the highlight in the lower RH corner is a minor distraction - those on the LH side less so and I do wish that you had not cropped off the lower edge of the 'jewel' on his stick (the stroke is masking part, but not all of it). |

John - A very seasonal image for this year! The angle of the dilapidated gate and the interaction with the posts with their coating of snow works well and the blowing snow against the background trees adds atmosphere. Although the right hand post and the end of the gate do break the horizon a slightly lower camera angle would have added a little more dynamism to the image. The branches protruding into the top left hand corner would normally offend my eye, but in this case they fit in and break up the blandness of the sky.
I must say that the snow is a little muddy and in the copy below a CEP 4 Detail Extractor layer with the default contrast increased a little has been applied to reveal more texture in the foreground snow. |

Ella - It's great to see a mono composite creative image from the Group - well done! I suspect that it will not be to everyone's taste.
I very much like the background and the excellent lighting on it and the positioning of the model is quite convincing, but not so keen on the angel wash filter - will be interesting to see the reaction of others to this addition! I think I would prefer to see the filter restricted to just the dark area at the top of the stairs (if at all) and the effect certainly needs to be masked off on the model's legs and left hand - it looks like a disease!
The jury is out regarding the heavy border - I think the image is strong enough without it and I am not totally convinced by the feet shadows which to my eye do not fit in with the lighting on the model.
Nevertheless a great effort and no doubt very rewarding on your part - good job! |
