31 May 17 Comment Unlike John, Ian and Ella I do not find the image too dark and like the moody effect generated. However I would lighten the man a little as in Ian's edit to reveal some detail in his clothes and would also reduce the brightness of the top right hand corner rather than cropping it out and destroying the balance of the image.Reducing the brightness of the white triangle as in Ian's edit works well - removing it loses a little separation between his leg and upper body. 31 May 17 Reply I find that 16x9 is a often good crop for landscape and I have the facility on my micro four thirds cameras to capture images at the 16:9 ratio in addition to 4:3, 3:2 and 1:1.

For a genuine panorama from a number of stitched images the crop size tends to be dictated by what looks best and the end use of the image. For International Exhibitions 500mm wide is the absolute max - less if matted.

31 May 17 Comment John - I echo Ian's comments and would suggest that your processing workflow has resulted in a rather crunchy image with a limited tonal range.

Tonal contrast + High Structure (harsh) + Contrast in Viveza (why not on a Curves adjustment layer?)is a little too much I feel.

First off I was not aware of your family issues over the past year, but fully sympathize and understand the stress and strain of the situation. My sister was similarly diagnosed nearly 10 years ago and after a single op. has been healthy ever since.

A good honest landscape in true style - foreground, middle ground and distance to give the image some depth.I particularly like the textures and reflections in the water and the drama in the sky. Good tonal range and a pleasing image.

31 May 17 Comment Paul - a difficult situation in which to capture a sound image with all the hippos milling about, but you have a great focal point with the head an eyes which draw the viewer in.

I feel that the image is rather busy and is lacking in contrast - I'm guessing that the hippos were covered in mud.

For me a 16x9 crop is more effective and I have taken the liberty of upping the contrast a little and applying a slight vignette (Nik Colour Efex - Lighten/Darken centre).....

31 May 17 Comment Ella - an outstanding portrait, well processed with a good tonal range and bags of impact. I'm not totally convinced by the brightness of the top right corner and think that it could be toned down a little - otherwise a great neutral background. May 14th
