31 Apr 17 Reply Rashid - there are a series of images from Iceland in both colour and mono on my web site, from trips in 2015 & 2016 - no images from 2017 uploaded yet .....

31 Apr 17 Comment Rashid - the image does not appeal to me that much. In terms of composition it is very bold, but I feel that the dark water unbalances the image and makes it right hand heavy. I agree with the comments re. processing.

Maybe with the edge of the pier on an angle it would look less like an image of two halves which I find rather disturbing even though that was your clear intention and, to be honest, the girl on the edge is far from dominant in the scene and can easily be overlooked. Sorry - not for me :(

31 Apr 17 Comment Paul - I enjoy the image as it is. Zebras are one of the few animals which IMO are ideal for mono. The level of contrast is subjective, but a slight increase would give the image a little more punch. As for the forelegs I feel that they are essential to the image.

If this is not to be considered as a nature image the possibility of cloning out some of the grasses over the face is there to be condidered.

31 Apr 17 Comment Hi Stephen
No problem - the mono was taken in IR on a converted camera so there is no direct colour version, but I also recorded the image in colour. Colour image was on tripod, IR hand held so not exactly the same comp.

Original mono version, below, converted to pure mono in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 to lose the magenta cast.

31 Apr 17 Comment Ian - you certainly caught the 'decisive moment' with this image. You have caught the street artist just right with the ball and foot off the ground and without the child in the background the image would have been no more than a record shot.

The Adidas sign on his shirt does not bother me too much - after all it is part of life these days, but toning it down is an option.

I find the background , apart from the child, somewhat distracting, especially the light toned trousers of the guy on the right. My suggested(rough) edit below removes the distraction reasonably well and I have lightened the child's face a touch.

31 Apr 17 Comment Beautifully done Ella - good tonal range and a well balanced composition in which the reflection is key. Apr 4th
31 Apr 17 Comment A well balanced image with a good lead in through the rocks to the distant lighthouse. A lot of potential in the sky which has not been realized - the top at least would benefit from darkening down on a graduated Curves layer. Similarly for the foreground which is a little bright.

An option in positioning the camera for this shot would have been to have taken a lower viewpoint such that the foreground rock on the left breaks the horizon - I feel that it would have given the image more depth.
