I agree with John on this one. I live in Barcelona, Spain and with the rain these past few days, I am sure I too have been to this very spot right here in Barcelona, Ella.
:)
This is my kind of image. You have given me an idea of converting some of my images into B-W. You did a great job of it. Only, if I had to nitpick, I would say, ¨Where are the people?¨. Somehow, for me, in an urban setting like this, people play an integral part of the scene. |

The eyes tell the story. And the slight grin. A superb capture, considering the dim, almost non-existing lighting.
Is that a fly on top of his left eye? Wow!!! That´s incredible detail.
Kudos to you, Paul. |

Great timing, lighting and capture of the mood on this image, Rashid. I am sure that was not easy. Welcome to the group. I do not have any suggestions to add beyond what is already mentioned. |

A superb image you have captured here, John. The lighthouse may be a cliche but this image of it is certainly an original. The rock and the angle of the image with the detailed foreground certainly adds a whole new dimension. And the sky is the icing on the cake. No suggestions to add. Only admiration. |

You make Ansel Adams proud, Peter.
Superb image to start off a New year. This image looks like a magical ¨out of this world¨ place. I have been to Yosemite but seeing your images makes my trip complete for me. |

Oh, the travails of our profession. Very glad to know that your camera was safe along with you.
Great result though... I love the details captured, Ian, in the short amount of time that you had. And I like the image just the way it is. I don´t feel a flip of it was necessary. Having said that, maybe Peter´s image is a good one too. You could have 2 versions of the same site. Don´t have much to add beyond that. |

Hi Rashid,
Welcome to the group.
Thank you for your intriguing questions. You are welcome to ask me questions any time.
Having said that, I hope I was able to answer them somewhat in my response to John, above.

John,
Thank you very much for the beautifully poetic way you have described my image. I did have a few of the elements in mind when I made this picture like:
- The geometric pattern of the table contrasted with the rounded shapes of the glass.
An overall play of shapes if you will, with the round of the glass shadow too, falling on the stark straight lines of the table. And the way the glass and the couple were breaking the straight lines of the tables and the railing.
I wanted my focus to be more on what´s below, where all the action was in the first place.
Having said that, you have taken it to a much higher level, which I will always love and cherish. Now, every time I see this image, I will think of your words. :-)
Happy New Year! |

Thanks Mary. I completely overlooked the third table in the background. |

I agree wholeheartedly with Charles on this one.
Erick, you chose to make the picture from the top to the bottom. If that was your intention, I would suggest to go all the way and explore the possibilities. Charles´ version is very good.
Also, the reflections only distract from the image. So best suggestion that I can give is to clone them out.

Charles, you have done it again. A spectacular close-up look at the inside of a flower with such amazing clarity.
However, I will agree with Janos and Mary wholeheartedly on this, that we need to soften the body of all the elements of the image to get the delicate feeling of the flower out. It looks too grungy for my taste. |

Mary, this is a Super image. And full credit to you for patiently making this beautiful image and to Charles for educating us on this technique in the first place.
I have never downloaded an App in my Sony Alpha 77ii until today. I have to read the manual on this one.
Technicality aside, I love everything about this image. Mostly because it is another, shall we say, ¨architectural¨ detail with everything that I love: texture, detail, color...
This one has just enough light and shadow to make it an amazing image.

Apart from what I mentioned above, I have to say, I love the composition of this image. Shall I add, it is My kind of image: Capturing Architectural detail.
It is an artistic photograph. Very well done.
However, if this were my image, I would do a gausian blur and darken the steel buttons and red band, or whatever it is, from the background so it is not so prominent. That will accentuate your beautiful details, scratches and all, just the way you have it.
With regard to the scratches, I would explore on it more and get out the texture and character of the piece more. That way we feel like we are standing right next to it and about to touch it...
:) What can I say, I love architectural detail and texture...
And I love Mary´s B-W version as well. Something surely worth exploring on this image. |

Janos, I don´t think Charles was saying that this is ¨not a winning picture¨. I agree with him fully that we would have loved to have some notes as to what was your thought process when you took this image. I am with him in that thought. |

Thank you Charles for your usual ever so detail comments. I really appreciate that you take the time to give us such specific suggestions and explanation. I love your version very much. You are so right about my shadow being unrealistic. I also like what you did with the background very much. |
