Thank you everyone for your appreciation.
Al, it took more than 5, but less than 10 hours. I am greatly disappointed with the selection of the hair. |

If you notice, all the demonstrations are from a clear background. I would love to master your technique of cloning hair. |

Yes Marti, this also works flipped. Only I kind of feel that it leads the eye into negative space. I also considered to let the lamppost go out of the frame, but I did not do it, because generally anything going out of the frame leads the eye out of the frame. However, in this case, I do think that the attention is concentrated on the action below... Other points of view are welcomed. |

Excellent catch Jerry and especially for catching the horse with all four hoofs off the ground. Great job selecting the subject and removing the background. I cannot see anything for improvement, other than perhaps giving more room in front of the horse. Action like this needs a lot of space. |

You are right Marti, I really have no idea as to how I would crop the background. Thank you. |

Very sorry everyone, I did not mean to say background, but backside. |

Excellent job getting the subject sharp and the background in motion. Three small things to improve it; crop a bit from the background, tone down the bright area in the top right and brighten his face a bit. |

Good catch Peggy! I have the same problem. Long ago I learned to set the camera on a tripod and focus near a flower, then wait for the butterfly to go to it. Generally they do return to the same flower... You did good and I think you can improve on it. My suggestions are: Flip the image so that we look diagonally upward. (Diagonal lines looking upwards are stronger than diagonal lines looking downwards.) As it is, we are looking into negative space. In my sample I gave more room in front of the butterfly and a bit off the back. I darkened the background and the brighter wing and I brightened the darker wing. See what you think. |

Good job at removing the markers Mike, but I suggest to crop at least half, not all, of the trees in the background and a bit from the bottom, so that the eye can concentrate more on the sheep and dog. I also suggest a little brightness and sharpening. |

I am not disturbed by the "artsy" look that Peggy mentions, I kind of like it. I think that an eye-breaker is good once-in-a-while. But at the same time consider flipping horizontally and cropping a bit from the left and some from the top, for a different look. |

I agree with you Marti about the lack of color in Fall pictures. As I recall, I think that Fall colors recorded better on film than they do digitally. Yes, replacing the sky did improve the image. I think that if you want to emphasize the ground more, you need to crop more from the top with the center tree in the background as the focal point of the composition. |

As per David's suggestions, you have a perfect stage to explore at different times and different conditions. My suggestion is to take pictures when the water is a bit choppy or wavy, then flip the image vertically and again horizontally and crop to satisfaction a bit from the right. This should give you a natural painterly look. To give you an idea, I played a bit with the wave filter. |

Karl this is an excellent image and out-of-box thinking. I do think that it would be best presented in a square format. I extended the background top and bottom and gave it also a bit of Curves treatment to brighten it and make it pop up a bit. Hope you like it. |

Excellent and creative idea Angela. Since you like to work with reflections, I suggest getting a sheet of Mylar Film at Art stores, which I am sure you can utilize in many ways... The attached image was done outdoors by reflecting colorful flowers on mylar film and then two images butted next to each other. The original is more colorful and sharp. |
