Thank you everyone for your appreciation. It goes to show that even a throw-away can be salvaged.
Yes Marti, that should help.

I think we can all agree that our eye leads us directly to the background mountains of this lovely scene. I also think that if you pump up the fall colors of the foreground, you can appreciate the background even more. |

Capturing a bird with a good size fish in its beak is generally rare and I complement you. The one suggestion I have is to select the eye and brighten it a bit. I hope you can see the difference.

Al, I see what you mean, but by eliminating the white boat I think would create a negative space and then the dark boat would have to be moved up a bit. I am sure it can be done, but ???

Al, I have no problem with the warm and green tones. I think they work well with this image, but as much as I feel that the slanted look works well with some subjects, it does not give me a comfortable feeling with this one. I just straitened the image with the frame of the door and at once, it said: "come on in!"

Yes, Peggy is right. "It looks so natural!" You did good! However, if you can forgive my two cents, I suggest removing the selfie stick (which leads the eye out of the picture) from the middle girl. |

I also agree that your tone combination works very well and especially how the pattern of the background compliments the iris. For me, I need a little more stem and a little tilt to keep the iris from appearing to be static in midair. I extended the canvas a bit and tilted the entire image a bit. Perhaps you may want to consider this in the future.

I agree with all that has been said. I would consider this image as a pictorial image of interest and even call it 'art'. However, I do wonder how something like this would do in competition?… Forgive me, but perhaps I am shape orientated. At once I saw the shape of a pelican? With that in mind, then I considered to make that shape stand out over the rest.
