I like the composition and the subject, but I agree that it looks a little off with the texture affect. I think in this instance the brick and the rust have enough natural texture without needing the extra effect. |

You have a nice leading line and a nice triangle with the boat and the pathway. I don't think you need so much of the walkway though. I would probably try cropping off some of the bottom and making a panorama style of image. |

This is an excellent image. You caught the perfect moment and the composition is great. I like how the blurred background keeps the viewer's attention on the birds. Nicely done and welcome to the group. |

I really like this image. You caught the butterfly at the perfect moment with great focus. I see the soft edge you mentioned but I see that as a positive because it adds to the feeling of motion. |

The yellow petals seem to be over exposed to me, I don't see any details. I agree with the cropping suggestions. Another way you try to reduce the distractions in the background may be to add a vignette. |

I agree with most of the comments above. I have entered pictures of children in camera club contests in the past and have found it hard to get beyond the "it would be great in a family album" type of comments from judges.
I find myself thinking that I am missing a big part of the story. She is wearing a life vest, but there is no sign of water in the picture. I think I would like it better if I could see what she is running towards or away from. |
