I see what Alan and Joan are saying, but I think I prefer Fred's new crop. I like how the three buildings on the right form a triangle together. It gives it a bit of cohesion and balance. |

I like how different the three cityscapes submitted were. |

My first thought upon looking at the image but before reading the comments was that this great image would look even better at the blue hour which would complement the yellow tones as well as make the darker buildings stand out more - but then I see you have already considered that. I think you did an outstanding job. I love the leading lines and your aperture worked great with having all the buildings sharp while retaining the three dimensional feel of the shot. Well done. |

I love the image. I agree that the newer crop improves it. I think you did an excellent job compensating for the movement of the boat. The New York skyline is photographed a lot, but you managed to make it look original. Well done. |

This image tells a great story. The circle vingette makes me feel like a small animal in a hole (maybe a rabbit) looking up at a dog sniffing around. Great job getting a catchlight at this angle. I would probably try to lighten the fur a little bit, if you can without losing detail. It seems a bit gray on my monitor instead of white. |

I definitely agree that cropping off the right side improves the image. These types of demonstrations/performances are difficult to capture and you have done a great job given the conditions. I also like Joan's suggestion of a vignette to make that bit of a head near her hands less noticeable. |

I agree with Fred about the shutter speed. I love how the water is smooth and misty, but does not seem too unrealistic. It gives it a wonderful dreamlike quality. I see what Fred was saying about cropping, but I also see Joan's point. I guess the question is what drew you to take the picture. Was it the piling and structure itself? Was it the pattern of the water on the sand? Cropping would definitely simplify, but would it sacrifice some of the painterly feeling you wanted? Both approaches would result in a great image. |
