Don, I had the same experience a few years ago but could not get inside.
I like your discussion with Julie and subsequent posting. |

Hi Julie,
In PS >Select>Subject I chose Inverse which makes the background active rather the subject. Then you can work on the background. There may be an easier way to do this but this is what I did. |

Catherine, thanks for the comments.
Since posting, I have learned how to delete the line in the background.
The yellow petal in the vase - yes, I agree that it should be deleted. |

Julie, thanks for the comments.
Since posting I have learned how to delete the horizontal line.
I will learn how to introduce a vase shadow. |

Hmm Catherine, I think Julie has a good point and one could even lighten the whole image. But that brings up a point I have grappled with. Does one leave a sunset image dark to imply the time of day or does one lighten the image to better see the details? I think you got it here. |

Ling Ling, I have had conflicting thoughts about this wonderful image. The first was that if this is about the sakura tree, one should crop off much of the dark building on the left side. But then one would lose all of the interesting detail which adds content. No, I would leave the image as it is because I can spend enjoyable time looking at the building detail and the river in addition to the sakura. I would dull down the orange fence on the right so that it is not so prominent. Nice image! |

Janice, I find this quite interesting street photography. Your post processing is quite effective. I like that the blonde woman and the street vendor are engaged with each other. I would not change anything. |

Don, beautiful image capturing the lighthouse, walkway, and ocean. The only missing element is an offshore wind buffeting visitors. |

Julie, in PS I selected the subject, did the inverse and thus was able to lighten/darken the background. Is this what you wanted to do? |

Andrew, I like your capture of the industrial railroad yard. I found the power lines in the upper left area a little distracting and removed them with the spot healing brush. What do you think? |

Yes Andrew, I am a bit close in to the vase. As to shadow, yes I could put it in with Photoshop but my original lighting was very flat without shadows. I will see if I can do that. Also I need to take the horizontal line out in the background. |
