Catherine, I am taken with the peacefulness of this image. And I like your signature. I like Don's sharpening of the colors but it misses the mystique of your version. You did a great job! |

Hi Ling Ling,
I like your image very much of the adult and immature egrets. I find it a little contrasty and have used masks in PS Camera Raw to darken the light areas and lighten the face of the adult. What do you think?
All of the suggestions above are helpful. Another suggestion would be to use manual exposure and underexpose by a stop or two when you have a small light subject surrounded by a dark background. Or if you want to use auto exposure, do a three stop auto bracket or decrease your auto exposure setting by one, two, or three stops.

Janice, I think you beautifully captured a great blue heron with perfect clarity. The brown color of the water doesn't bother me as that is how marshes are. I second the comments of the others. |

Well Don, when I realized these were manikins, I laughed and laughed.Your post processing is right on. As to street photography, I think this is a perfect 10 or perhaps should I say 8 in this case. |

Julie, forgive me. You have a wonderful abstraction but when I see it, my fingers itch to use PS Liquify as I have done here. It is certainly less artistic than your image but just fun to show what "Liquify" can do. The others have great comments. |

Andrew, this is interesting and I think either "as is" or cropped to square would work. Now I played with cropping a little on the left and then some on the right resulting in the doorway being more on the left. The result is not much different but differently balanced.
The others in the group have great comments. |

Thanks Janice for your kind words. As to shutter speed, I find my hand is shaking a little so I bump the ISO but then forget to reduce it. |

Don, you improved my image! I'm not traveling much now, but if I do get to northern California, I would love to go out photographing with you. Best wishes, Henry |

Thanks Ling Ling. The panoply of fall colors in a hardwoods forest is really spectacular. |
