Thanks Janice for your comments. And yes, we are less than 200 feet from the shoreline of Lake Superior with its blessings of waterfowl and trials of northeaster storms, one of which is blowing today. |

Hi Don,
I really like what you did in Nik Color Efex to bring out the background. The sky, the clouds and the sea mist greatly enhance the table still life. I have not used Nik Color Efex but will get it, I assume the pro 6. |

Hi Catherine. As to your question on the sky, in Photoshop I attempted to add some softness to the sky that fitted the misty early morning scene. I selected the sky, chose the inverse, and then made a layer mask. Then I brought in a cloud layer that I had previously captured, and moved it below the layer mask to have a soft sky matching your misty sunrise. The others above had other ways to accomplish what you asked, all fun ways to try. |

Ling, Ling this image beautifully captures the lives of Inuits in Greenland so I would want to include as much of the milieu as possible. But I would want to delete the blank sky areas as they aren't providing information. I would like to include the stairway as it leads the viewers' eye into the building. I would like to keep the blue boat on the left but that would include some blank sky - thus I would crop in on the left.
Well, here is my result, a subjective answer which others might not like. |

Janice, the intentional camera movement, vertical in this case, really captures an impressionistic feeling. Now you have to continue your experimentations including horizontal and zooming in and out with a zoom lens. I find in doing this there are a lot of discards but once in a while an exceptional image appears. Also experiment with color as some colors work better than others.
Charles Needle deals extensively with camera movement in his book Impressionistic Photography selling for around $30.00. He also has podcasts. |

Hi Don, I like what you have done with this architectural abstraction, especially with the sliders to bring out the textures in the background building. The corner of the foreground building is a good eye catcher.
I agree with the others that the subsequent versions are improvements. |

Hmm, Julie, I like both images. But as you must realize by now, I like color so I would vote a slight favor for the colored image. The colors just seem to add some interest. |

Andrew, I like the close up intimacy of this photo. The viewer is right there looking directly at the participants.
I didn't know what steam punkers were and had to look them up in google where I became entranced with the variety of costumes on display. Now I wish we had steampunk festivals in the US. |
