Lin, great capture of the sunset on Lake Arlington. The image speaks peace and quiet at the end of the day.
The next time you go to Lake Arlington, see if there are some rushes or something that you can get close to so that you have a foreground object. You might find that this heightens a feeling of depth to the image. |

Jamie, I think you did a really great job with this plover. I would be tempted to do some post processing such as cropping in on the bottom just a little bit. I also would lighten the eye to make it more noticeable. In Julie's version above, the catchlight is more noticeable.
Nice work! |

Don, I trust you are now recovered from Covid 19 and once again out capturing images.
Locke Alley as you have done it in black and white is really a good choice. Now, to be truthful I do not find it strongly appealing because I do not find a center of interest. Perhaps cropping in close to the fence would do it. Julie and I have the same idea. |

Hi Julie, great image! I think your post processing really enhanced the bark. You might try blurring the top so that the mid-ground mountains are more predominant.
I am not doing much printing right now so I can't add anything to what the others have done. |

Thanks Andrew and I agree with you that the vibrance of the original is better than the final image. I will work on this in the future. |

well Andrew, you have immortalized one happy stoker! What a nice smile you have captured. The composition is good, the cropping is good, the contrast is good. I don't have anything to add unless you softened the trucks in the background. |

Hi Brian, I did not know the work of John Hilliard so I googled him and found his work interesting. But more to the point, I find your combining photography and fine art refreshing and challenging. Your critiques of study group work really get to the matter that photography is an art form that each photographer can use to be creative. Please continue to do your insightful critiques which challenge us to expand our abilities as artists.
I also went to your website and was amazed by the depth and breadth of your career and artistic abilities. I shall return often to be challenged by your galleries and variety of techniques.
As to vertical vs horizontal images, I respect your horizontal preference but find I more often prefer a vertical aspect. |

Thanks Brad for your ideas. You have a way of increasing impact by adding just the right additional touches. I will try them. |

Lisa, you have such fun experimenting with your equipment and technique. To do a live composite with the tree lines sharp, you must have used a tripod. I don't know if my Canon R5 can do a live composite but I will look through the instruction manual. The car light trails going into the background lead one's eyes into the sunset clouds similar colors. Nice job! |

Naida, a lot of thought and effort by you and your grandsons went into this composite to make it work. The bumblebee transformer and the boys are in good proportion to each other. The tree, the birds and the moon add to the make-believe emotion. The expressions of your grandsons show the excitement of the moment. They will always remember working on this with you.
I have nothing to add. Brad and Brian have both delved into the image to capture how well you put it together. |

Hmm, Tom. You in the foreground, the cat in mid-ground and the home in the background with a touch of light sky as well as other touches, all work. This is a beautifully done composite.
My emotional response? Please don't be offended but you look a little glum. Brad and Brian add insightful comments. |

Brian, you have created a wonderful artistic ICM, one which challenges me to try some of the things you are doing. I like the resulting composition which is abstract but still has a thread of realism. Now I will have to try some of your techniques in my own work.
I second Brads comments and also your response to make a final version that is more than the sum of the original parts. And, as you say, photography is an art form painting in light, and I would add, painting in color. |

Brad, I like this mountain background and this horse foreground and the drop shadow that you applied. But if you are retiring, would it not be more appropriate for you to turn the horse 180 degrees so that the effect is going from today into the distant future? Just a thought. But as is, this is a wonderful captivating image!
Brian and Alan added some good thoughts. I have not used drop shadows and so am challenged to do so.
As to retirement, I am 87 years old and there is never enough time to do all the things I want to do. So I recommend prioritizing and do only the things that are at the top of the list. Also be aware that eyesight deteriorates as one ages. About a half hour or less is all I can spend at the monitor before my eyes become painful. And then memory loss creeps in making it difficult to learn and remember new PS steps. |

Zina, riding Lava Falls I looked straight up at the sky and then our raft flipped over on top of us. I thought I was a goner but we rode over the standing wave and were fished out by our companions without damage. |
