Catherine, this is another of your wonderful abstractions. You have the ability to find designs and abstract them into your own vision!
Now, as I have a preference for verticals, I would do the following cropping but I don't think it is as good as your cropping, just different. |

Jamie, great sunrise image! Now, if I may, some suggestions. We, in the midwest, do not have the great backgrounds of mountains that you have in Loveland, Colorado. So we have to move around, find a beach line that comes in on the diagonal, look for some foreground objects such as bushes, trees, flowers. And find something in the sky such as a gull or maybe include a high tree limb on one side. Or let the sun creep up the horizon on one side or the other. Well, that's what I try to do in Duluth on the shore of Lake Superior.
Now, having read the comments of the others, I see that they are comfortable with the centered horizon line. So there you go, different artistic tastes. |

Don, the Bleach Bypass Filter does heighten the interest in this image. For me, however, the windows become a little light and too stark - I would darken them down slightly and try to bring back slightly some background detail. Great image! |

Julie, your sharpening and increasing contrast really make this pop. You could crop out some of the pigeons on the bottom but that is a minor suggestion. Great iconic capture of Peru and South America.
Andrew has a good suggestion but on the other hand leaving the mother and boy in does impart the feeling of South America. |

Great geometrician! I would clone out the upper right hand side as you thought about and I would also clone out the scattered leaves. But those are minor corrections.
Alison and Catherine have interesting thoughts. |

Kathy, I agree with you that the dark patch stops the eye. You did a good job of correcting it. |

Thanks Brad, I will have to get a grandchild model to chase a rabbit down the path. |

Lisa, wonderful how you found a double exposure to make a face in a log.
I would be tempted to clone out the two green strands to make the eye more obvious but your way is probably better. |

Jan, your creative playing just bubbles forth in creative images! I don't know how you can start with nothing, find elements to add and end up with something so creative. You challenge me to photograph everything I see on the chance I can use it in some way in the future.
This is top bar work!
Brad has said very well how you challenge us all. |

Tom, wonderful composting that all fits together in perspective of a new dawn. Your choice but if you moved yourself closer to the front of the image it might add more impact and a center of interest.
Brad's comments are right on. |

The eyes say it all Kathy! Who would have thought your eyes and lipsticked mouth could be so engaging. The aging of the background to look like an antique postcard just intensifies the whole effect.
I just can't find anything further to suggest or change. Great job! |

Brad, I really, really like this. I like the Topaz effect you have on the flower, I like the monkey looking directly at the viewer, and I like the size of the flower. Now, personal preference for me but in no criticism of what you envisioned, I would make the monkey slightly larger to be a larger center of interest but not so large that it would detract from the flower.
This is really fine creative work! |
