A simple way to make a light box is go on line or to a lighting fixture store and get a ceiling LED fixture. You or your electrical handyman can attach a cord with plug to the fixture and you are good to go. Invert the fixture on the floor, a chair, or table and and have fun. Henry Roberts groups 40 & 41. |

Catherine, you captured a scene that I wish I had captured myself. It speaks of Colorado, the mountains and the fall colors. I have no suggestions for improvements.
Well, looking at Don Hill's suggestions, he has worked some magic. Maybe overcooked but indeed interesting. |

Alison, my apologies. I missed the heart shaped center of interest. Have a great college tour with your kid. Our granddaughter and her parents did that last week. |

Alison, good comment to darken the sun. Question for you and anyone else - how do I darken the sun here where there are probably no pixels to work with?
I did not use a polarizing or ND filter. Focus: sometimes on a scenic I will take several shots, one focusing on the foreground, another one focusing on the background. This image I believe was focused on the foreground as it is fairly sharp. I should have in post processing included a sharp background in a composite. |

Alison, great capture of the feeling of sunrise on a fresh summer morning!
It seems to me this image lacks a dominant center of interest such as perhaps the center smaller tree. You say you were experimenting with a new 28mm lens. I find that with wide angle lenses, one has to pick out an object to be the center of interest, move in on that object and often place it using the rule of thirds suggestions. I also find that with wide angle lenses, if I get down close to the ground, the image is often much better than if I am standing my full six foot height.
Have fun experimenting with your new wide angle lens. |

Jamie, magnificent capture of a sunflower which is so colorful! The center of the flower is sharp so the slight unsharpness of the petals doesn't bother me. As you probably know, the depth of field gets shallower the closer you get to an object. I find that with 100mm lens flower macro shots I really have to close down the aperture to keep things sharp, especially as you use telephoto lenses. But on the other hand distracting backgrounds get softened at wide open apertures.
Great capture as is! |

Julie, great capture of interesting color. I think you must have increased the colors and contrast in Photoshop to good effect.
I like your cropping but would have done it differently. I would not have cropped on the left side but would have cropped in a little more on the right side. This would leave a little more room for a viewer to imagine a child starting off on a happy ride. Your slight cropping on top and bottom were done to good effect. |

Andrew, this has great human interest! Black and white is a good medium.
But I think the bike rider gets lost. At danger of losing perspective, I would crop off the right half and crop off maybe a quarter of the bottom. This would greatly enlarge to biker making him and his height much more prominent. |

Lisa, there are very few photographers who can take a simple sunset image, image a dragon and turn it into a fantastic sunset dragon. Bravo!!
You are way beyond me in skill - I can't think of any suggestions. |

Kathy, two beautiful images blended into one artistically top notch image. Congratulations!! I can't think of any suggestions to improve this black and white image.
I understand Tom's suggestion but think I like the contrast artistically in your version. |

Tom, you are a master in your skill of using Photoshop to create images. I wish I knew and could use just 5% of your knowledge of Photoshop.
Kathy has a nice version but I think yours is cleaner, more direct, more simple. I hope your granddaughter appreciates you skill and artistry. |

Thanks Tom. As with my response to Kathy above, I will see if I can mute the yellow flower. |

Kathy, I agree with you that the yellow green flower is a point of interest that competes with the red tulip. But if I deleted it, I think it would destroy the balance of the image. If I get some spare time in the next day or two, I will see if I can mute it so it isn't competing with the main flower. |

Ah Kathy, what fun to work with a creative concept with a friend. I wonder if you enlarged the cat head and raised it slightly so one could imagine a neck beneath fur, would it be more realistic. Also you might conceal the skirt and sweater more as they don't fit with a marsh scene.
Tom has some interesting ideas. |

Well Brad, I think this is a great composite, again showing your creative ability to imagine an image and put it together. Now as to my personal response I feel the the top and bottom portions do not quite match each other. The top, probably as a result of the Topaz filter, is impressionistic while the bottom portion with the natural lighting and figure is more realistic and natural. For me they don't quite blend together.
Kathy and Tom have interesting ideas, especially Tom's suggestion to add a layer above the person and use a color blend mode. That might bring the top and bottom portions more in sync with each other. |
