Catherine, great flower image! I like the shallow depth of field that your telephoto lens produces. The closeness of the flower verges on the abstract which is a fun way of looking at flowers.
Nice work and keep experimenting! |

Alison, congratulations on trying a complicated process when you are busy getting ready to move! I like the colors, I like the concept.
Now, when you have moved and are settled in (which will be months I am sure), some things to try further this concept: the light box flowers: try selecting out the flowers and put in a muted, colored background layer below them. The top right and bottom left white areas don't seem to add anything so leave them out. Try blending the background and the foreground flowers together so they are not so stark.
Light box: another light box is to go to a light fixture store, get a florescent ceiling fixture, 4x8, or smaller, attach a power cord and place it on the floor or a table with the light facing up. The cost should be $50-100.
The background you created I really like.
So now you have a continuing project when you are trapped inside. |

Jamie, this does come out well in black and white.
As another way of looking at this, I would try cropping out most of the foreground water (which is not what you wanted to do) and maybe crop out some of the dark sky.
The comments above have some merit.

Anne, wonderful concept and wonderful execution to a clear image. Black and white works here. The steadfastness of the church vs the maelstrom modern life.
I like that the nun is marching with determined footsteps into the swirl of ever evolving life. I like that the nun is off center and that there are a variety of lights and shadows throughout the image.
Suggestion - would it be possible to take out the soft fringe about some portions of the nun?
Great work!

Alison, I had forgotten that I did this in June of 2019 but you found it!
I agree a little crop on the top would help. Location where I was standing - on a path by a trail bridge maybe 50 feet above the water using a 24-105 zoom lens at 64mm. Contrast in the shades of green - I will have to think about that. There is not much difference in the green of the trees at that location. If I put in more contrast, I think it might not look natural.
Thanks for your comments! |

Well Anne, the next time I am at Cascade Falls I will try getting further left but it is almost a vertical wall. Thank you for your supportive comments. |

Julie, yes, cropping off some of the top greenery would help but not to much. |

Julie, this is a nice moody silhouette image of a fisherman doing what he loves to do. Would you consider cropping off some of the left side so the fisherman is less in the center? |

Andrew, this is a nice record shot with the copper tubing glowing. Would making the image lighter and adding contrast make this more dramatic? |

Lisa, I would not have thought a wilting flower losing its petals could turn into such a beautiful twirl.
I have no suggestions to make to such a great image! |

Jan, what an amazing image! At first I didn't realize part of it was a reflection in water until I looked at your original closely. All the parts of the flowers are so sharp and clear. Have you seen Harold Feinstein's book 'One Hundred Flowers'? He also uses a black background and I think artificial lighting but I think your natural lighting and water reflection is far superior.
And what will you do next month? I can't wait to see. |

Maryellen, this is really a polished, top notch composite! the composition of the flowers is appealing, the background is just a perfect touch of color and fills what would otherwise have some areas of stark white, and the color blending of the layers provides a unity to the image.
I went to Rikard Rodin's website that you mentioned and found a good tutorial on making composites - I will try his suggestions.
Now I can't wait to see what you do next month! |

This is a wonderful whimsical image Kathy. You have blended in the colors of the girls' dresses into the whole image. The expressions on the alpacas are great and the monarch butterflies and a touch of whimsy. You really worked all the layers into a unified whole. I wish I could see your show in Roseville. |

Hi Brad, I like this but I find it difficult to connect the 'life force' to the image. The flowers are good but the figure of your son is hard to make out as a person. But keep working on the theme of your children. Nice work! |

Wow Lisa, nice job! I like that you took out the closer line of cars, stretched, and used Topaz 2 painterly.
I have no suggestions. |
