40 Aug 24 Comment Thanks for all your comments. My feeling is that the prominent mast and stay on the right hand side is unattractive and would be better removed. IIRC it was a full vertical sweep starting at the bottom. I will try a small sweep next time. I rarely carry a tripod though, but thanks for the idea. Personally I would like to retain the sky, not sure about the red building on the right but thanks for the suggestion.

40 Aug 24 Comment Yes the crane adds interest and you've caught the scene with nice clouds too. I think just lightening the shadow areas and perhaps adding a but of dehaze would also work. Aug 12th
40 Aug 24 Comment You've caught the "blue hour" so a nice sky. A nice memory of Bruges (I don't think we've been there in the evening). I tend to agree with Don - a bit too much empty water and sky but nice reflections. I wondered about simplifying by removing most of the left hand side too (but I tend to crop too much) Aug 12th
40 Aug 24 Comment I think as a "record" shot it shouldn't have converging verticals (because the camera was slighty tilted up). I have taken the liberty of altering that, increased the contrast, added a bit of vibrance, lightened the shadows. Everyone does it differently! I prefer it in colour but I like Don's mono version Aug 12th
40 Aug 24 Comment I assume you didn't have a longer lens? The treatment has produced a very dramatic shot. I think the crop is fine. I think black and White is better than colour here. My only suggestion would be to straighten up the verticals which to my eye are slightly out Aug 12th
