Looks like an infrared film effect - very nice. It reminds me of the red dirt that you sometimes see in states like Oklahoma. Great sky too. I agree with Mike about lightening the foreground. Only negative - I can't say I like the pink foliage of the trees but it's a matter of taste. |

Yes, neat. Not sure about catch lights in the eyes at all for this subject. |

Yes I like this very much. Lots of ideas here. Actually I quite like the "kink" in the horizon. |

People have often incorporated bits of street art: posters, graffiti and so on in photographs. So long as the photo isn't a straight copy of the original I think it's all right. In fact I have done a bit of this myself. But it can be controversial, who knows. Contrariwise, Walter Sickert painted "Miss Earhart's Arrival" using a photograph from a 1933 newspaper.
Personally, I find the colours of this are a bit too brash; and strangely, I quite prefer the softer colours of the original but it's all a matter of taste. |

In my experience, clubs get internal comps judged either with a panel of judges using key pads or else a single judge who critiques and allocates points out of 20 or 30. Jamie's club publishes its criteria and recent competition results on its website. |

I may have used a tripod for this shot. |

Your club has set criteria for scoring
27-26 High impact and creative with excellent technical attributes.
25-23 High impact and creative with minor technical flaws.
22-20 Better than average image with strong impact and above average technical attributes.
19-17 Better than average with some technical flaws, or technically good with lower impact.
16-14 An average photograph
But to be honest judging is very subjective, with judges having different prejudices and "personal" criteria. Some hate "creative" photography, others hate excessive vibrancy. Others insist on the rule of thirds. Some insist of everything being in focus, no blur; others don't mind OOF or subject movement. One person's creativity might be another person's sloppiness. Different judges might have found differently.
Stuttgart Library got 19 in the open subject category which is "Better than average with some technical flaws, or technically good with lower impact". So not low marks. I think that it's a nice picture. But you are competing against all sorts of pictures in the open category and I think architectural record struggles here because it often doesn't have quite the same opportunity for "impact". Look at the impact of the other pictures in that month's open competition.
Arguably in architectural record it would have been better for the camera not to have been pointing down. And maybe better with a horizontal format with a wider angle lens. And with no people. But that's personal.
Some people also struggle in the open category but do better in set subject competitions because they have to go out and take a picture on a fixed topic and it forces them to use their imagination rather than just reaching for an available picture which is perhaps "good enough".
If you want to do better in your club competitions I suggest you need to look at the sorts of photographic techniques or styles that are doing well, month in and month out in your club. Not to copy them but to see the sorts of images that do better and try yourself. I don't know whether someone from the judges does a critique of the entries but listen to what they say and act on it.
Ask someone else who is a good photographer in your club what they think.
Hope this helps.

A nice shot. I am not so sure about the top right dark area but it's a matter of taste. |

Yes, nicely done. Could the two pink moons top right be lightened a touch? |

It's a nice overall effect which works well; I think it could be even better if the subject had a more interesting posture or was doing something e.g. lifting the board. |

I am not fond of the "Original 2", the colours seem a bit unnatural. I hope you don't mind but I imported your picture into LR; lightened the shadowy rock in the centre, darkened the water highlights and cloned out the twigs in the foreground. I don't know if you like this version any better? |

Welcome to the group, Catherine.
It's easy to remove blemishes or unwanted spots or even quite large areas using the Spot Healing Brush in PS or PSE with context aware turned on. It's a bit like the clone tool but even easier. |
