The size of the frog was deliberate. It is a giant frog. A small frog would have been lost-hard to see.I appreciate your comments. Thanks so much. |

Adding critters and gnomes to the fungi was a good idea. It creates a story to follow rather than images of fungi. I love the trail of ants in the foreground. I too feel that Original 2 is a better depiction of the story rather than your final image. It is more compact and highlights the musicians. Good idea and well executed. |

Good work, Jan. Your paper pieces and spatter brushes work well. The background you created gives the image character that blends well with the attitude of the model and the paper of the dress. |

Beautiful image, Fran. You did a fabulous job of going from day to night. The lighting on the horse is beautiful. He seems to glow. Anchoring the horse to the ground with the gradient works well. It looks natural. The addition of stars from the milky way was the perfect finishing touch. |

You really gave this old truck the grunge treatment. I think you might have been able to pull more color out of the truck. I usually find that it is possible to bring back a lot of the original color. That would have made the overall look to the truck less bright. I feel that a different texture would have been a better choice. You lost the greenery and leaves around the truck. |

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the tone mapping. I will try it soon. Your efforts created a new, more interesting image with much more detail and texture. The new color palette is very pleasing. The treatment on the background removed all of the distractions and now focus on the musician. |

Beautiful work, Steve. The dark atmosphere and fog really create a fine background for the engine. I do agree with Fran that a bit more darkness on the engine might work well. The creation of the engine is a masterpiece in itself. |

Beautiful image, Geoff. Gannets are so graceful. I think that a vignette as well as slightly darkening all the other birds except for the mate on the rocks would bring more interest to the image. |

Brenda, good fall color, and interesting rocks on the cliff. I agree with Mervyn about the sky and would definitely crop out some of the rocks. In my opinion it does not have enough wow to enter into competition. |

Good try, Jacob. I do agree with what has already been said. You need a clean background for the critter to stand out. |

The ducks are mottled ducks. The female has similar coloring to the female mallard. |

Yes, they are mottled ducks. The catch lights were there and were brought out with lightening the image. To add catchlights I usually pick an off white color, and add to the eye or eyes with a small brush. |

Good pose for the squirrel. It shows that something is probably going to happen-action. The background is nicely blurred, and the fur is nice and crisp. |

Good rendition of a cypress marsh. The cypress knees in the foreground bring good interest. The highlights in the fog seem too bright. In my opinion it would be helpful to lower the highlights and increase the brightness in the shadows. By cropping off the tree on the far right, you could bring the main tree out of the center. |

Great find Mervyn, a mama and baby mushroom. The smaller mushroom sits so comfortably under the taller one. The color of the larger mushroom blends nicely from darker at the top to lighter around the bottom. good texture on both. The smaller mushroom with its darker top, tighter texture, and more cylindrical form provides nice contrast with the larger mushroom. There is good contrast with the darkened background. I might darken the green "ribbon" that runs across the image behind the mushrooms. good work. |
