Thank you for your suggestions, Alan. I added a fog layer and then used your suggestion for a gaussian blur. Does this improve the image? The image with just the fog layer is under reply with Lori's comment. Thanks |

This is a beautiful image, Jan. You did such a good job of pulling it all together-cozy cottage, silly goose and snowy day. |

Good work, Lori. The filters work to pull the image together. The flowers are facing each other as are Mary and the Angel, and they are the most important part of the image. |

Fran, a lot of work here. Good work on the wings. The orange fungi along with the blue and gold wings give a good color palette. |

You have certainly created a layered field. I feel that there is a central focal point missing-something to draw the viewer into the image. Maybe a texture over the image would help to draw everything together to make the image more cohesive. |

Well done, Alan. Excellent use of shadowing, gradients to show depth. Thanks for the outline information. I appreciate all the work that goes into your images. |

I added a light fog layer just to Taylor. Do you feel that this is better? |

Good job, Steve. Maybe there is light at the end of a really long tunnel. Your central image has such a sweet face, I would like to see some of the smuck removed from her face to reveal it a bit more. I agree with Lori about the birds-less is more. |

I think you have done a fine job using the comments on your image to improve it. You have brought out details in the foreground, improved sun, better crop and softened the image. |

Pierre, I processed in RAW first bringing down the shadows as much as possible without affecting the fern. Then I used OnOne Effects to darken the shadows further. You could also use the Camera Raw filter to bring down the shadows after using the RAW processing, and use a mask to remove darkening on the fern.(Brightness/contrast adjustment layer could also be used-Bring the brightness down then use a mask to recover the fern.) Next I burned the background to further darken the background ( I usually burn or dodge in soft light-New layer, select soft light and check box at bottom-fill with 50% neutral grey. Then select burn tool, background is black, and start to darken the background.) Next I added a vignette from Nik/DXO software, brought back anything on fern that was darkened with a mask. Lastly, I used a brush using the same black that was in the background and painted out any further distractions. There are a hundred ways to do anything in PS. This is the was I did this one. If you have any further questions, I would be happy to help. |

Geoffrey, even though you were quite far away, you have captured good feather detail. As already noted, the background does not help the image. Darkening the background somewhat and opening the shadows on the bird as Isaac has done are helpful. The bird is quite centered. Maybe a different crop giving more room in the back and front would move the bird out of the center. |

Brenda, the reflection is beautiful as well as the starburst sun. You have nice foreground interest, but as Isaac noted the cypress knees are quite dark. I agree with Isaac that a crop from the left side will help the image. Since you were on a tripod with a cable release you could have used a slower shutter speed to open up the shadows and keep the noise low with your iso of 100. I do feel that the overall image needs some softening. Good try though. |

The reflection of the tree in the water is nice. However the actual tree and surroundings seem to be quite dark. Opening up the shadows might improve this. The image does seem to be lacking in a central impactful subject. Try to look for single images up close and personal and see if your images take a leap forward. |

I do not know if it is an edible fiddlehead. There were many fiddleheads in Costa Rica. |

Nice capture of the doe in the snow. Removing the stick on the right certainly helps the image. The nose is sharp, but the focus seems to fall of on the face and eyes. Using the texture, clarity and dehaze sliders in the Camera Raw Filter may improve the focus. I agree with Brenda that the eyes need to be enhanced. |

The clouds in the sky certainly add to the beauty of this image. You have nice detail in the receding water. I might crop some off of the right side to bring the main large rock out of the center of the image. You have captured a beautiful color palette. |

Good feather detail in the three birds. It's nice that the one in the back frames the other two, and a triangle is created with the three. |
