I really like this. The composition is good and your treatment is excellent. I find The candle light a bit distracting too - I duplicated your final image and used camera raw to reduce the highlights and white a bit then used an inverse layer mask to leave the rest of the image as it is.
Thanks for another fine image. |

You've made a good piece of artwork here.
The black spot will be easily cloned out or cleared with the spot healing brush.
Have you had any success recovering the filter gallery? There are lots of programmes and plugins that only like 8 bit images, so I usually work in 8 bit all the time (it also reduces the file size considerably!). The image you sent me was in 8-bit, so it may be a red herring.
Well done with your image and we all know what judges are like!! |

Looks like a lot of fun with a well seen original. However, I must agree with Helen and Phil regarding the busyness of the image. It's a little over-saturated for me too.
I've converted the original to B&W using Nik Silver Efex and placing this over your image in luminosity mode at 60% opacity. This brings the spiral back into the frame slightly and mutes some of the colours in yours. What do you think? |

I like this a lot. Scanners can be excellent image capture tools. Did you use a black box to cover the glass? I made one very simply, using mount board, which cuts out external light completely - I notice there's some light leakage on your original.
My only slight problem with your image is the swirling ring cutting into the shoot, instead of going behind it. A bit of cloning and healing puts that right: |

There are lots of possibilities with this image. So many different things to be seen in it. I see lips, moustaches and an almost malevolent fly's head.
I'd probably work it some more with some of the suggestions, but probably overwork it.
At first I thought it needed something else. I also thought it may be better just off centre, but the more I look at it, the better it gets. Well done. |

10 mm lens was used for the Groynes image, so mega distortion.
You wouldn't believe how little sand there is at the moment - the strong Easterlies have scoured the beach, so it's very rocky now and the groynes are standing about 6 ft high. Here's an image from 10 years ago - looking back towards the land. No sand but still a good place to walk! |
