Linda,
Your composition is good here. I like the way the tree trunk leads into the photo. Your eye tens to stop at the part where the trunk has been sawn off, before lookin ag the rest of the image with the nice reflections. You are lucky to gave such a nice are near your home to walk past every day. Considering the brightness of the water, you did a god job filling it up with reflections so it doesn't totally dazzle our eyes away from the subject. I do like your analysis os preserving with digit means what is faint to die and fad away.

Kristi, You have doe a good job both in seeing the interesting comparison in lighting and in taking a shot that was difficult at that time of night. Did you stand on the bridge to take the shot, or the side of the road? It is slightly unsharp to me, but I have been having trouble with my eyes dues to macular degeneration., so am not sure. I really like the idea of the colored lights in one section and the bright whiles in another. What that has to do with the New Year is a bit obtuse, however It does show us an interesting contrast between the tungsten lights of the homes and the less friendly bright white lights of the harbor and urban subjects. The cruise ship is interesting. |

This image I think I prefer in color as it does make the dog stand out. The large foreground is OK for me because it gives room for the action to move, if necessary. We are seeing the way nature works. None of us really wants the dog to catch and kill the first, bu there was probably something wrong with the bird, maybe it was sick or weak for old. It's unusual to see a dog catch a bird. Al cat on the other hand.....
I wish you good luck all in the contest. It is an unusual photo, well caught. |

first of all your cropping helped a great deal. I dod agree with Kristi that the black and white image is stronger than the color one. He is well-placed in the frame and I love the leading line of the piece of wood. Nice job.

Rick,
This is really lovely. One of them definitely looks like Iceland, but I don't know where the rest of the parts came from. The colors go so well together, th oranges and blues. I like how you have added the sun and sunset t this extremely impressive combination image. Nothing is out of place; nothing is too much. Also I love your usual colorful border that picks up the colors in the image.
A great creative image from you agian. |

Hazel,
For some reason this round the How To's have been getting mixed up. I know they were working on the site recently and maybe the was the problem. In the meantime I have changed yours back too what it should have been. The only one who commented on it with the incorrect information was Brian.
I do like the way you have taken a group of dealing leaves and composed them into an very interesting still life. The background which you have created is prefect for them, neutral but picking up the colors in the leaves. Your composition is good and you have the capability to play with that ad infinitum. Lots of fun. Glad that you sued leaves that were showing their age as the holy look makes this much more lacy and interesting than would solid leaves. Nice work. |

I like the way you handled the reflections of the sky I n the water. I'm not sure it was necessary to go to all the trouble you did to change the sky. In the new PS, there is a sky filter which will give a wonderfully clean section of just the original sky, including catching the leaves of a tree accurately.
Steve, I would suggest removing the stripes in the sky as it gives the impression of someone haven taken a photo of an indoor crystal palace showing the beams.
In any case, you have certainly improved the "dull" original. Good work! |

Peter, Just a comment about the misplaced comments. I'm not sure what happened, but I had a lot of problems with this round. I think PSA was updating something and possibly, it affected our setup. I had pictures from another group show up. as well as what happened to your comments. Hopefully, by next time it will b working correctly. |

Peter, This reminds me initially of a fetus in a womb, protected and buffered by the mother. I like your positioning of the little girl, and the way she is swaddled in the circular colors the whip around her. Her hands on her face seem to add to the feeling of protection. Nicely done. |

Your combination work is very interesting this month and last time. It's hard to find the parts dod the image that are in the originals, so you have done a great job in combining them in a way that is of interest to us and yer, very different from any of the originals. I think this might be a case of symbiosis. Anyway. it is an interesting abstract that one can enjoy perusing.
Charles, our bosses wanted to take you out of the group because you have note been making comments. I have so far protected you. You need to comment on everyone else's photos as part of being a DD member, so I hope to see your comments this month. |

Brian, I really love your original, which was clearly already worked on, but your dedication to working with the concept of the deconstructed images is a fine one. . I think you did a great job with the composition and picking the interesting parts of the original to move around in the final image on the white background. You've filled the frames nicely;; I particularly like the long chain hanging down; it brings the image together. The black triangle on the bottom offers a strong base tot he whole. Clearly one can have a ball doing this; so many possibilities. I feel that your sense of composition has been very strong here and it is an interesting piece of art that could hang in the MOMA. |
