I have no idea where the line "Is this an ad for Home Depot" came from. I may well be going senile. |

You do great street photography. The young woman looks properly annoyed that you are taking her photo. The corrections you made are all to the good. Remember, that if you want to enter it into journalism any camera club, you're not allowed to remove objects you don't want except by cropping. I think you're allowed to darken stuff in the background as long as it looks normal.
I love her expression. Good job! |

It is mysterious as is. Looks like a filter similar to Fractalious was used. I think this works quite well. There's nothing that says everything has to be sharp. It was clever to get rid of the rest of the traffic light so that the black square does resemble a small door, maybe for a Hobbit. When I look at the image, my brain tries to sharpen it, but then I realize that it is much more interesting with the diffuse look. There are some really good ideas here.

Jeri, Nice placement of the flower center in the frame. Do you know what kind of flower it is? Everything is sharp and I love the flow of the petals, the shadows of the stamens on the petals and the lightness just to the right of the flower center. It keeps you eye where you want it and makes the viewer also happy with this capture.

Rick,
You managed to get great lighting throughout this image. Just enough shadows and dark lighting to make it really interesting. Your title works well for this. Nice shooting and placement of the doorways, just off center to keep it from becoming static. Excellent work. I would have loved to see your 3D show.

Full Spring In Virginia. How lovely that is. Nice composition. I like the big trunk, just off-center and especially the dogwood. The dogwood makes the image a quintessential spring photo. You can almost smell the sweet odors of early blooms and new leaves. Your work on the colors looks almost perfect to me. Just bursting with the lightness of the early leaves that are bursting forth. |

Bruce,
I have used this technique which is so relevant during the pandemic. You have done a lovely job with your branch and the delicate flowers. I would suggest cropping off quite a lot on the right side and maybe tilt the branch into a diagonal position. The most important part which is layering the different exposures and working with them to bring out the parts you want worked very well. Keep it up.
I also like your choice of the pink background to match the color in the flowers. |

Kristi,
Thanks for the kind remarks. I kept in the white patches because it is so reminiscent of Cuba and its decrepitness. However, I thought about cropping that out and am including one in which I did that. |

Peter,
I admire what you've come up with. So much more interesting than the original.
Since I have no acquaintance with Painter, except that I bought it a couple of times and gave up on it quickly, I can't comment on your choice of filter. The colors are great and the distortion of the lines works for me. The only thing I would suggest is to turmthe the channel back to blue. Right now it looks like a desert creeping in and parches my mouth. Good work. Really creative looking. |

I love these complicated composites, my favorite from creative. This reminds me of Dali, of course. It looks like a monster about to exit the clouds, big cat paws. The use of Flood is great here and your distortion with the Transform tool work so well. The lighting may not be consistent with the light source, especially on the drink cards, but you have spent a lot of time thinking this through. The all-seeing eye really stands out and captures our attention. I might suggest a couple of bottles of whiskey floating in the water, as well. Given the topic, there's no end to what you could do to really tell the tale.
Very well done, Brian. |
