I find the shininess of the leaves intriguing. The composition is good. The grey stones really make the leaves stand out. I would not use it in nature, for sure, as it is probably a domestic ivy of some kind. You might consider cleaning up the area in the upper left just above the leaf as it is kind of messy. The clone tool can be used to do this, not too hard, but also not a walk in the park. Personally, I don't talk to my photos, but that's just me. I do look for something clean and well-composed. If there is a story, it makes it all the better. |

So in keeping with the season. Your tree is really spectacular. I particularly like the white garlands that give the impression of snow. The photo of the horses in the background gives a flavor of a turn-of-the-century old time period, which adds to the interest. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Rick, and will enjoy a very Happy New Year, |

First of all, welcome to the group. At times we are a little lazy and don't get things in on time. I apologize for that. You have a wonderful sunset, really remarkable. Wonderful reflection on the water. I would suggest cropping a little from the bottom as that is not of so much interest, and a little from the left to get rid of the touch of a tree in the upper left.l You were so lucky to find that wonderful sky and take good advantage of it. Thanks for sharing. |

Phil,
Beautiful Bird, so well executed. Exposure is perfect and placement in frame, as well. Almost too perfect. I would cut him out, as you have already done no doubt and use him in a number of other backgrounds. Really nice work.

The bird was in a separate layer and I used the same Topaz filter on it; it came out like that, which I liked, so kept it. |

Phillipa,
A beautiful image, whether Christmas or not. The music background makes the iris so lyrical. Both background and primary images are so well done. The use of textures on the music score really works well. The way you've scrambled the music is also fascinating. They way your've run the music only slightly onto the iris is also interesting, giving a concept of the iris and music intertwining.
Very nicely done.
Phil, Have a wonderful New Year! |

Steve,
You have come up with something completely different. I suspect the average citizen of Amsterdam would not be able to recognize their train station. You use a lot of unusual third party apps to work on your photos, things I am not familiar with at all, starting with gimp. However, the final product is very intriguing. I tried to use your URL to see the original, but it didn't work for some reason. What I like about your photo is the central point where all seem to meet. Very interesting work.
Happy New Year, Steve!

Peter,
The black and white image is much better to show the effect you are trying to achieve, in my opinion, because the vibrant green of the colored image has a kind of calming influence, which you do not want. The monochrome changes the green to gusts of smoke, presumably from a cannon, so enhances the image. I see you may have done that deliberately, to make it look even more like a cannonball is being thrown at the battalion. Good work! |

Whatever you did it looks like luxurious draping with silk and gold fringe. I love the effect and am glad to see you working in a slightly different area than you have recently. The one thing I might change is to remove the light streak in the middle upper left. It is amazing, as always, how putting two layers together can make such an unusual symbiotic outcome.
Happy New Year, Brian. |

Steve,
I'm not sure how to do that. I could try PS lighting effects to see what it does. Thanks for the advise. |
