George,
We are all sorry to hear about Vi and wish her the best.
The composition is excellent with your old woman being picked up by the light. I have to say that the two suggestions by LuAnn and Tianji are both good. The coat of the woman is so dark, that it gets lost in the colored photo. The black and white images help work around that and the use of the two pigeons does strengthen the composition. I was going to suggest cutting out a lot of the foreground, but with the two birds, I think it works well.

Rick,
I appreciate what you are trying to do here - provide a sci-fi background for the poppy to give it a feeling of out in space or trapped by a fantastic spider. Anyway, for me, there is a problem in that the strong reds of the poppy don't really mesh (haha!) with the blues in the background. Using the PS Select Menu, I would pick up the colors of the blues using Color Range and transfer them to some color on the poppy such as a near red. I used one of your reds from the poppy to change the BG color and am including it. The colors need to be closer together to make this blend together, in my opinion. |

Carmen,
First, I hope all is now well after the hurricane.
The concept of putting together a number of photos of the parasols to form something that is better than the originals is a good one. Your composition is strong, in my opinion. The colors work well together. Some parasols are getting a bit dark, so you might work on that a bit more. Also watch the overlap. There are some light borders around some of the parasols that you can remove, albeit painstakingly, by carefully using the clone tool. I'm speaking of the blue, red and teal parasols. Just blow up those areas so you can see what you're doing and clone out those light sections. Otherwise, very nicely thought out. |

Tianji,
The photo is quite interesting. The composition is excellent and we are led through the image and out the light at the end of the tunnel. I do think you didn't need to make it so bright as now you have created burned out highlights that were not in the original. It is fun to try new things in programs like Picassa or PhotoShop, but sometimes it's not necessary to do anything to a photo; it is good in and of itself. I do prefer the original.

LuAnn,
I love this photo. I'm not so hung up on the canoeist gliding out of the picture as the question of the rock, which draws my eye immediately. In a sense, the rock makes the canoeist less out of the picture if it counts as part of the scene. Your lighting is exquisite, and the fog is perfect. This is a really lovely photo, and you should be proud of it.
I see now that the paddler went around the rock, which is why it is there. Your wave path is now obvious going around the rock. |

Nancy,
I admire your use of brushes to enhance the image. In this case, I think I would like to see the flower more open and filling the space a little better. As is, it is a very delicate and attractive flower, but I still feel like there's too much wasted space. The colors of your brushes add greatly to the image.

I do like the Topaz Glow look which emulates Fractalius. Since the latter is not available for the Mac, we now have Topaz Glow. Although the subject is a bit off-putting, you have done a great job with it. I like the red plaque, although in the middle, because it draws my eye into entering the gate into the prison. You have captured the feel of containment which is, unfortunately, part of every prison. I also like the depth you have created with your lines heading toward a point of infinity. I wonder how it would look with a prisoner included, but then he could get out the gate, couldn't he? |

As for the shoe, I have no problem with it. I think it adds to the story. |

The background has gone from mundane to wonderful. Great idea to erase to the original for some of the cigar smoker. It works really well. The colors also go together as though they were made for each other. A first-rate travel image that has been turned into a very interesting creative object. |

This image has caused quite a response. I am thinking that distorting the eye so it was circular like a cyclops eye might be better. I love the spheres; I never seem to have much luck using PS's spherize and these work really well. The almost hand like clouds on both sides could be revised, maybe by coloring them darker. They are the main out of phase addition to the image, in my opinion. It is such fun to just start to put together something and see it grow as your imagination takes off. |
