Charming photo. Really gives one the feel of the place and kids. It looks like you may have flashed it, as it is a bit harsh. Maybe raising the ISO would have avoided that, but it depends on the camera. I love the placement in the frame. If you put this into pictorial (color), you might consider blurring the background a bit in Photoshop to really make the two kids in the foreground stand out. You would need to use layers to do this. |

This was using very high ISO with lots of noise. I tried to lighten as much as could, but came to a deadend, unfortunately.

The poor little horse looks like he is getting the attention he needs. I was just reading about how hard some horses have it, so this guy is doing very well. I like the concentration of the woman giving the medicine. She really cares. Both fill the frame so well. The slight tip of the missing elbow could be corrected in Photoshop is you so chose. I'd be happy to give instructions if you are interested. |

Rick,
I really love the panoramic view of your yard. First of all it is quite interesting with many different things to look at. The snow, partially covering everything, makes everything blend together and not look out of place. The tree placement is well composed and the snow on the branches so lovely. You took this at a good time of day; it makes me want to be there. |

Wonderfully sharp and fills the frame perfectly. The black background really helps make the flowers stand out. It might be interesting to replace the black background with a white background just for comparison. That should be relatively easily to do, since the black is all of one color. |

Linda,
I like how you think. This is indeed a very unusual aspect, the angle makes the photo very exciting and colors - the blue and the yellow compliment each other very well. I wonder how it would have looked without the clouds.
Very good seeing. I congratulate you |

The structure is very dominant and a bit disconcerting in its threatening aspect. It reminds me of an owl. I do like the light you have on it, so it is not totally dark. The sky works exceedingly well with the moon and the tower is placed compositionally perfectly. Assuming that the unusual tower is the future, the monolithic subject is acting more of a deterrent to the future rather than a guardian in my mind.
But your work is always so interesting, well thought out, and very creative. |

Beautiful images of the heron. Your use of textures to enhance the photo works very well. We have been told that we couldn't use purchased (other people's textures) for creative as it wasn't our work. That is quite a hindrance which I wish had not been adopted.
It's not so easy to create your own textures. This one from Topaz is quite elegant and fits the photo perfectly. |

The filters were Kai's Power tools. I do miss them. |

Alan, In my early and more creative days, I put this image together. The concept was to emulate the tilt of the Leaning tower. I called this "The Land of Pisa" I went out to take photos of trees in So. CA that seemed to be the type you could find in Italy. I created the floor and sky using no longer available filters. |

Alan,
I admire your creativity in producing these interesting, but unconnected composites. They are really Daliesque in nature. Your shadows are well done and consistent. Wonder if there should a very light one of the floating door.
My biggest problem with this is the total lack of relationship to the four inserts. I would really love to see a concept thought of ahead of time that tied your composites together.
Your technical work is clearly great. |

John, I really like the concept of inserting the rider. Perhaps you should have made the opacity a bit lower to really give a ghostlike appearance to the inserted rider. As it is, he looks like he was converted to B & W only.
You are close on track with this. I would try reducing the opacity and show it to us again. |

Barrie, It looks like a exciting air show. I've never seen four parachutes on top of each other like that with the four flyers all hanging on to a ladder that pulls it all together. The story itself is very interesting and I assume the magenta smoke was part of the act. Whether it was necessary to change the colors so dramatically is a question that I'm not sure I can answer. It certainly makes the image stand out. The way you've lightened the area behind the flyers works really well giving a lighter background to the center of interest. |

Brian,
I had to look up close to really see the face of the model. The "hair" is well done and sort of looks like real hair. The angle of the face is perfect; I find it interesting that the hair is bright to set off the dark grey face. The oil painting filter may not have been necessary, as the strength of the face may be reduced because of the softness added by the filter.
Very creative! |
