You know what they say: "99% of judges give the rest a bad name"! |

Having spent most of my life living by the seaside, this is a very evocative image, reminiscent of posters in the last century advertising seaside resorts. Well done. |

If you were entering this in a Nature Competition, there is little you can do to remove distractions, but in an Open competition, the field is wide open. That blurred flower could be eliminated, and even more detail extracted from the butterfly itself. A great capture, but a work in progress. |

The crop is certainly better. Whilst the leaf is certainly attractive, where does one focus, where is the point of interest? Is it over-sharpened as there is ghosting on the edges? |

Interesting image, well cropped. I wouldbe interested to see how it might do in Photojournalism competitions. As someone who has judged a lot of PJ Internationals, I would reward it ... but then again!! |

I make much the same comment as I did last month. Forget whether the image would do well or not in a competition, does it stand alone on its own merits as a pleasing image?
There are lots of buttons that we can push, lots of packages like Topaz that will create effects. Look again at my comments last months on Marilyn's flowers, and the examples I gave of what could be done with Topaz. The whole issue of "creativity" come under question when a software button or two can do the work for us. |

Sometime you come across a situation where you feel you have to take a picture. When I take pictures I do not take into consideration the use I would make of the resulting image. If I wanted to make a collection to illustrate my visit to Colorado Springs, this would be of interest, although no-one would claim that it was an award winning image. I might put it into a PJ competition, but not a PID competition. |
