I vote for the left image as well. The smile on the right is better, but I think what is making us prefer the left image is actually the tilt of her head and the fact that the umbrella is angled slightly away from the camera. It provides a slight diagonal line to the image, which makes it more interesting. I'd decrease the highlights in her left sleeve a little. Nice array of lines - the spokes of the umbrella lead in to her face, and are repeated in the crisscross lacing of her bodice. Pleasing deep magenta with pinks splashed around the image. |

Great catch ! (pun intended!). Truly an image just exploding with tension...in his face, the outstretched arms, the tightly bent legs. And its super how you caught him suspended in air. And all very sharp. I also like the bit of humor in the advertising on his T-shirt and the tiny touch of red-edged handkerchief flapping out of his pocket. I LIKE the orange fence rim. It really adds a great opposing pop of color to a largely green scene. |

Norm< I often like negative space in images, but you can crop a bit off the top and slightly more off the bottom to retain the relative placement of the 3 men in the image (see VF). Great composition - catching the differing poses and the juxtaposition of 2 'warriors' with a religious man - but all praying just the same. Really like the angle of the shot that creates those leading lines in the pavement they invite - no, ORDER the viewer to go to the wall! Good dynamic range with just enough dark tones and a dash of white in prayer shawl to stand out against the very light background. Nice image! |

Super image! Quite a few elements that work extremely well; an interesting pose, subject is grounded by the nest, the arc of the left branch directs eye back to subject's head, the V described by the 2 branches on either side of the egret frames the egret, and finally - the lovely color complements of green and gold - both repeated in its mating coloration on its bill. Love it! |

The elements that work in this image are the way the walls ' peel' away from the tractor to direct our attention to the tractor and driver. Lots of horizontal lines in the bricks; vertical ones in the smoke stack and pillars. The circles of the wheels are a nice juxtaposition to the other elements. I agree- a bit less shadow on the driver's face. Otherwise a really nice image. |

Perfect! Lovely! Great lighting, wonderful composition, great choice of fruits and bowl for a balance of colors that move the eye around the image. The folds and different shadings of the black cloth are also absolutely wonderful. Many different sizes of circles, including the circular bowl rim. White bowl provides perfect container in terms of color, shine, size and the slight pattern on it. Actually what I would call a 'close up', but not a macro shot....but who cares? It's so well done otherwise! Also a great image in which to find other 'hidden' images...see VF. |

A very unusual fruit! I agree with Carol - nice contrast of green and yellow, with a touch of brown. Leaf veins add diagonal interest to circular fruit body. Not quite as sharp as you would probably get with you DSLR, but a good option using your 'macro' feature on the point and shoot for travel to give you a very nice image. I also think you need to crop the abrupt brown area off the right, and do a little editing to clean up the leaf a little. I adjusted the image - increased shadows, decreased highlights a little, increased contrast. I cropped it and also rotated the image a bit to make the veins sit more diagonally. I cloned out some of the spots, but kept some so it kept the realistic look. I also used the clone tool to move the 2 yellow dashed lines from the right side to the left lower area. Balances the brown bit I left in the upper right. See VF. |

Interesting subject! Can almost be viewed as an abstract; reminds me of a fiery space body or a bird's eye view of a geyser pool in Yellowstone NP. Nice light raking across the saw cuts; brings out the texture of the ridges. Repeating ovals surrounded by the dark very textured bark adds lots of visual interest. The lighter orange swirl adds movement to a very static subject. I would just suggest 2 things: for something like this, try lots of shots from different angles - handheld sometimes lets one be more creative with surprising results; maybe leave a bit more space all the way around so the bark can add even more to the design that enticed you.. I had fun playing with this trying different crops to make it even more like an abstract painting; here is one in VF |

In your face sunshine! Really like the flower you chose and the way you opted to capture it. The swirl of the petals around the middle adds movement. Echoes the Fibonacci swirl of the center elements. The subtle orangey lines on the petal tips add nice dimension and texture. Nice how you kept some of the under layer petals at the bottom - adds interest to composition. I played with it and edited it differently. Your version ahs a softness to it; my version brings down the highlights just a bit and brings out some of the detail and shadows more distinctly. Its a personal interpretation; see what you think in the VF image. Love this shot! |
