19 Feb 17 Comment Shot grabs my attention! I like the fact we cant see the bottom of the gap - adds drama that car might fall into that space- into the abyss. Perfect colors - red-orange against blue with that bright shot of red making the cable car stand out wonderfully. Lots of texture. Great V-shaped diagonal lines point out the impending doom spot. 19 Feb 17 Comment Really wonderful composition IMHO. Above the clouds! The diagonals of the 3 sets of cables leading to one point rivets the eye. Love the way the bottom set of cables disappears into the cloud. Excellent placement (capture !) of the cable car within the image. And of course the backdrop is breathtaking! Herb makes a valid point, but I didn't even notice it till I read his feedback. In this wide angle the lean is minimal and given the spectacular image I don't find it an issue. Feb 15th
19 Feb 17 Comment Very interesting capture...enjoyable composition. Because car appears to be going around a corner; gives the sense of motion. Catch lights in fenders, hood and lights give a nice visual punch to otherwise darker image, attracting eye right to car. All the repeating rectangles in image - windows, door, bricks, sign - nicely offset by car tires. Great texture. Nice to have softness of trees included in background as a natural addition to an otherwise 'hardscape'. I agree with Herb's VF - opens up the dynamic range a bit. Feb 15th

60 Feb 17 Comment Great capture ! I also LOVE graphic images - just naturally drawn to them and am always on the prowl for such images around me. Great technique using the white reflective surface. The use of F/11 gives deeper DOF, but not all the way to the base of the grinder. I think that choice makes the center just pop out to the viewer's eye... so great choice. Shine created by your reflected light is perfect. Particularly like the whiter area at the upper right - it makes the image more dynamic by adding extra shimmer and giving it more dynamic light range. The repeating circular shapes, sectioned by the metal spokes give real punch to the graphics here. But the center of interest is the handle due to the fact that it sits at an angle different from all the spokes. I'd add a thin white border when showing this on a dark or black background - I cannot tell where the edges of the image are, so cant comment on subject's placement within the image. ( I often forget to do this myself!) Feb 15th
60 Feb 17 Comment Really amazing that you were able to capture a sharp spot on this bird at 1/60 shutter! Which accounts for the slight movement at the crown of his head - from breeze perhaps? We see a lot of detail in his beak and some diagonal lines in the neck feathers which add interest. Nice catch light in the eye which adds ' life' to the image. Nice use of OC flash - you did not overwhelm the image with light - it mainly highlights the feather around his eye area. Because the background is pretty much solid color, the green spot - leaf I assume - is a bit distracting due to its placement behind his head. I would also like to see a bit more space under the tip of his beak and the bottom margin. But good job ! Feb 15th
60 Feb 17 Comment Wonderful texture - but for me this is missing a center of interest that is meant to grab the eye. More rivet heads maybe to show a graphic line to lead the eye? Or a somewhat wider shot to bring in some of the white I see at the top and right upper corner? OR - crop in closer to make the rivet more of a center of attention. Good job on seeing the possibility in this simple composition and on the technical aspects of the capture. SEE crop in VF Feb 15th
60 Feb 17 Comment Interesting capture - particularly because the background is a blurred repeat color of the snake itself. I like that the background gets lighter moving toward the right; adds interest in this very tight composition. The wide open F stop means a shallow DOF, but the eyeball is sharp and a small area above the red spot is sharp as well. Snake has interesting patterns accented by red spot. With this shot if the snake held still long enough, I'd experiment with a smaller aperture (larger number) to get a bit more DOF around the eye. Then compare the shots and decide which DOF version you prefer. Feb 15th
