Background very ethereal due to the fog gives this an unusual, ominous look. The juxtaposition of the soft background with the harsh, heavy, stone tower is very stark - which again feels somewhat threatening. The aspect seems a bit 'heavy' or ponderous to me due to the fact that the foreground subject is SO prominent. Cropping a little off the left to change the aspect ratio seems more pleasing to me, plus it removes the doorway that was cut off at the left margin. See VF... |

Nice soft colors, interesting softer side light. Good bokeh in background. Center bird sharp, nice pose captured. I agree with Stan about the birds cut off on either side. If this was a crop maybe you crop so you include some of the other birds? |

Great light, very dynamic pose! Love the repeating diagonals of their head tilt, shoulder and arm, hands, and her outstretched leg. Glints on her dress are clearly from a shiny gold lame type material. Great capture! |

Amazing results! No suggestions because its perfect as is. It does look like a sprite - powerful and angry. Stroke line is perfect border. |

No Lou, turns out I'm last! LOL...DOF concern is going to be one of interpretation. I LOVE it this way! The colors are great - complements of yellow and purple. What I love about images like this is that there is actually a lot happening compositionally. You have diagonal and vertical sight lines going on juxtaposed by the rivet circles. And fantastic texture. Super image! |

A very eye-grabbing image due to the singularity of the subject and the stark contrast of hot red against the black background with a dash of green. I like that you angled the flower somewhat too. The highlights on the red portion make the image sizzle. But I'd try to decrease the highlights on the stem so the eye is not drawn back that way. |

I don't remember, but I suspect smaller aperture would not have permitted the shutter speed I needed. One nice thing about the 90mm or 105mm macro lenses is you can shoot from further away than a 60 or 40mm. |

Interesting visual feedback - your original shot has a sense of softness to it except for the highlight Denise removed, which I do think was a good edit. Lou goes the other direction giving it a sharp, hot color tonality. I think it becomes personal preference. I really like the composition = fly at a diagonal and undulating petals allowing a complementary green slice of background. And the detail on the fly is just super. Great image! |

Just lovely Carol! The background is so perfect with that slight halo around him, it looks like a studio shot. Excellent sharpness considering you were shooting through a window. I agree that the branches in the lower left need to disappear. I'd also suggest increasing the contrast just a little bit or spreading out the light/dark on the curves to see if it gives the overall image a little deeper richness. But it may be best just the way it is - the softness is lovely as well! Great capture! |
