One of our judges told me that the human eye sees in landscape, and that I should try that. To me it looks ok in all 4 directions, since there is no distinct reference point, like a person. With a bridge, or a building, you don't have a choice. |

I am impressed by the sharpness of the baseman's face and "catching" this at the peak of action. You don't mention whether the camera was set to continuous/burst mode which I would have likely done. The tight crop is appropriate. |

Very interesting composition. Do tell us where you were standing. I'm not sure that shoes in the upper right add to the story, but if you think so, leave them there. Consider sharpening the rock and climber, and adding a bit more contrast. |

This was a good attempt in a difficult situation. I'll let others comment on the technical aspects.
I also have a "pocket camera" and when I can use a tripod, select the HDR setting. Without a tripod, a 3 shot bracketed setting will often save the day.

I find each aspect of this image appropriate. The selective focus yields impact. Monochrome is the best choice for an image with little color. The gray, overcast sky sets a somber mood. |

This shot could also be called "A day in the life of..." It does tell a story. I noticed a slight clockwise lean, and upon checking it with the ruler tool (under the eye dropper) determined that it needed a 1.81 degree counter-clockwise correction. The detail in the white area is quite good. |
