We normally want one center of inerest and not a lot of competition with it, but this image is just the opposite and I think it works. An image like this virtually requires you to contemplate it for awhile to learn about all the things going on. The two women, one in each window looking into the frame seem like important picture elements to make it work. I am not sure you need the red lines of a window frame outside the window on the right, but you hardly notice it until you have been in the picture for some time. |

I love John's comment and fully agree. Why let color compete with these wonderful shapes and lines that mono focuses our attention on. It is interesting that your crop cuts off part of the swirl on the left, right and top and this helps keep us focused on the center of this wondeful composition. |

I think the lighting makes the shot. I like the way the purple vase or whatever it is just fades to black on the right. To me it contributes to the mood of the image. Normally I think I would prefer that the fruit not be arrainged to sort of create a line across the bottom, but it seems to work. personally I think the well defined green and red of the apples is so different from the softness of the rest of the image that I think that detracts a bit but I like the image. |

I like both the color and the monochrome. Since the sky is basically monochrome it just seems like a thing to try. It looks like the "spikes" on the dock disappeared in this version also and it worked. I have been considering the crop of the sky to try to get the horizon away from the middle and it seems like you need to go to far to make any improvement if it is that. I think I would leave it as is. |

I like your choice of monochrome and I like the shadows. Monochromes do well with lines. textures, and shadows. Your image has them all. I think it would improve if you could tone down the hot spot on the right side of the pot. |

You have made something very ordinary into something of art. I like the technique you used. The textures and tones work well. |

I thought something was wrong when I first looked at it. You all have put your finger on it with the curves. I immediately noticed the bird on the right and thought it should go away. I was thinking a small crop on the left, but missed the one on the bottom. As a whole being late to the party, it is hard to find anythihg original to say. Nice image. |

The fill the frame people would not consider it too tight, but I think even they would like to have a little more space under the bird. I think the image is excellent. While I think the image is excellent the way it is, I understand John's comment about the underside of the right wing. The head and eyes are absolutely amazing. Jim probably knows you well and you are not at risk, but if looks could kill I would be worried. |

I am seeing a lot of images I would never dream of taking, but I very much appreciate what you all are doing. I like this image and I like the guassian blur softening, but I think I would mask it off his face. I agree with the comment to take the reflection off in front of his face. I consider the Manhattan Living sign a critically important part of the image to get the story across. Your processing from that original is amazing. Perhaps the blurring was important to tone down the resulting noise. |

I like this treatment for a prison scene. The grunge seems like the right treatment for the subject. That said it is hard to be critical of anything in this image unless it fails to get the story across. The bars should be enough to tell the story of what this is. Not anything I would want to hang on my wall, but a powerful story telling image. |

It ia good to break the rules. I recall when we went to Tanzania back in 2009 there seemed to be a lot of photographers that were putting the horizon way below the 1/3 in the image. They would put an interesting horizon with the unique african trees and even animals down there. It was eye catching. This certainly caught our attention as documented in all the comments. Congratulations on finding a way to be artistic with an ordinary scene. |
