I was thinking the flock of birds was caught with perfect timing. Now I know you just did a great job of adding them positioned on the white cloud to stand out very well. A pleasing winter scene. |

Excellent picture of the morning dove with the branch it is on tack sharp also. I like the green color in the background to give color and contrast with the bird and branch. Darkening the green is certainly an option, but I think it is fine with one exception. I would darken the green in the lower right corner and make sure that nearly white spot on the leave is eliminated. |

I like the image as you presented it. The fact there was wind from the left enhanced the image with the tail and mane hair blowing in the wind. The soft background from your f/2.8 lens is a significant plus. |

An interesting creation that I can't help wondering what the artist was representing. Every image presentation has a purpose and this shows the art work very well. I might be interested in showing a little of the environment of where you found it, especially as it is on a canal boat. I am a fan of them. We chartered one on the Loire Lateral Canal in France in 2012 and have one chartered on the de Midi Canal in France this year in July, not the best month, but it fit the schedules of our three generation eight person family. |

I like this version a lot, and maybe even my original comment was a little too strong. |

Sounds like us only worse. We were booked on an Antarctic trip in 2016 and OAT contacted us to cancel about two weeks before the trip. We had booked things around the OAT trip and felt we had to do something. We booked a trip around the horn of South America with some extensions on our own. Unfortunately it is starting to look like we will never get to the 7th continent. |

Don and Stuart's comments are very interesting. We have a similar problem taking a moon shot at any phase of the moon. If it is a full moon the center has front light with no significant shadows. Here we have significant shadows on the left, but not on the right. Makes me wonder if some compositing process of images taken at different phases would produce a superior image of all the detail on the moon. I can't tell where the edges of the image are and would probably put a narrow white stroke on it in case it is displayed on black like it is here. |

I suspect it looked "discarded" when Stuart saw it, but I agree it is not a sure thing looking at the picture. I was glad to hear that the F meant last licensed in the 60s. I wonder if the Midland Land Rovers Club is still around, they would enjoy this picture I suspect. I think the monochrome conversion is excellent, but I think I would tone down the details in the grass, perhaps selectively take down the highlights, contrast or whatever works on just the grass. |

You were very creative to see the potential of this shot. I like the exposure the way it is. Perhaps playing with it would result in an improvement, but I think it is fine the way it is. I think I would crop the bottom. Perhaps to the degree of removing all the grass. To me the grass feels like a different and not as effective shadow story. Try just scrolling the webpage down and see what you think as you lose the grass of the bottom. |

The image is stunning as it is, but I think the crop from the left is better. Not sure it needed the crop from the bottom. I would put a very narrow white stroke on it so people (judges if exhibited) know where the edges are. This is not needed on the cropped version, but only because it is not on a black background. I really like the pose and image of the girl, particularly the eyes and the look to the side. I like the totally black background, but perhaps you should retain a little more detail in her hair. An excellent image. |

Here is the wood duck. It has received acceptances and awards. I never exhibited the sandhill in monochrome version. |

My experience is that if the background or surrounding areas of a bird image has too much detail, the monochrome does not work very well. I think this is another example. If the test is really of the lens in preparation for your trip, the image of the duck is very good. Test passed!
Attached are two of my monochromes, I converted the wood duck just after I converted the Sandhill with very disappointing results. |
