Karen, I think this image tells a story that most people are going to like to experience. You have caught a good moment with the expressions and the flags in hand. I don't know what your experience is with post processing, but as far as I'm concerned virtually all images need some and we need some experience to learn what works for our photography. Welcome to PSA and I am glad one of the first things you did was to join a general photography study group. |

I enjoyed the angle you picked to take his portrait. He looks very well feed and the colors make him look healthy. I suspect looking out the window is a favorite place for him. A happy fellow. You have everything very sharp and captured excellent color. |

Marcela makes an interesting point. This looks like a fun shot to play with using filters. I think this would really be fun to spend some time in this place, very unusual museum. Old rusty stuff makes for good photography. |

Not sure I noticed them when I took it, but I am glad they are there. |

Yes, cleaning up the twigs is well worth it. I usually start out keeping images so I can enter them in the "reality" divisions. I could maybe even crop them for that, but it gets a little close. If not used in reality, they should go. |

I like what you did. Most of us probably wouldn't even of tried it. I don't think it would work well if you had not kept a bottom on the shot with that little bit of black across the bottom of the frame. A wonderful sky with a surprising choice for a foreground. It works for me. |

A beautiful shot that any of us would be proud of. Yes, the background is pretty busy, but lets call it an environmental portrait and enjoy it. The capture of the bird is excellent. |

This picture really grabs attention. It seems like a suspended bird that is not flying. There is a story here that you want to understand, so you stay focused on it. I think I would consider a crop from the right. Your choice of f/2.8 did a great job on the background. You might want to try to not let the area on the bop go to white, but it is hard to recover anything without turning it grey and that would not be good. Sometimes if you burn it darker and work on the "shadows" instead of the mid-tones, there is more color to work with and it works better. One of those sometimes tricks. |

I have seen a number of drop shots over the years, but this one is very unique. The shapes that resulted seem very unusual and I like the monochrome treatment which focuses our attention on the shapes. Well done. |

Well done. It is important to not have any distortion with the lines running across the image, and there is none. The tonal range with that white ship is a challenge and you do not have any significant areas with pure white. You might want to try to recover more detail in the area on the ship above and just behind the anchors, but I probably wouldn't even think about it if it was not shown in this "critiquing" environment. You do have the full range of tones from white to a "true black" in the windows and the dock. |

At one time, I lived in King of Prussia and drove through Valley Forge park to work. Enjoyed those morning drives particularly. This ended 52 years ago when I moved back to MN. Lovely place and you captured it with the fog. Normally we want a "true black" and a white tone in a mono, but not when you want to show fog. You did this well. I enjoyed seeing it very much. |

The horse and rider are set off very well from the plain dirt background and this works very well. The rider seems tack sharp regardless of the relatively low shutter speed and I like seeing the motion in the horses legs. It would be nice if the head of the horse was sharper, but frankly the way it is attention tends to be rivetted on the rider which is what you want. I would be proud of it. |

This is a wonderful shot, but also common, it is hard to express style unless it is modified in some way. I like what you did, so often these are taken mid-day because the light shaft goes to the floor, but it generally results in a blown out spot. In mono you can darken the spot but in color it goes an ugly gray if you do this. What you did is well done, but I think I might consider a version that is lightened a bit. |

I agree with both of you, but I generally like these images to have a horizon unless it is clearly a shot into the canyon. Unless you want this to be a Nature or Photo Travel image however, the sky could certainly be replaced. I just might do that in another version. |

A very interesting technique and it worked very well. I checked and without doing the math is does appear to be a monochrome with the ratio of the three channels consistent across the image. With this you could take a rose of any color and make it any other color and have the advantage of color consistency even if the original was not, but also with the full tonal range we generally want in a monochrome. Thanks for teaching this to us. Well done. |
