5 Sep 20 Comment A portrait of the times. A beautiful subject dressed to the "T's" with a background that identifies where she was when the image was taken, well at least gives a clue to think about. It might do better in an exhibition with the background toned down in some way, but I have a feeling that Oliver will want to keep it the way it was taken. Well done. Sep 19th

10 Sep 20 Reply I think Mark has made four good suggestions, but this is not a composite where you are trying to make it look like it is not a composite. I think you are just having fun with this. If you want to adjust the lighting, you might be able to reduce the difference significantly working on the layer with the woman leaning forward using something like a graduated filter in Lightroom or a lot of software products. I don't know that the symetry of the bridge needs to be kept. You might consider a small crop from the right. It might hold the eye on the women better. Frankly, I like it the way it is. Sep 19th

11 Sep 20 Comment I don't know if you are concerned about maintaining reality, but it seems like the road provides a strong line leading me where you don't want me to go. I don't think cropping would be good, but I wonder if a horizontal flip would improve this very interesting image. The line of the tombs just might provide a lead to the major monument. The infrared worked well, the tonal range is good. An excellent monochrome. Sep 19th

19 Sep 20 Reply I think you are correct. I think I should crop down from the top to just show the grass on the far bank of the lake. I want to save some space in front for him to move into. Sep 12th
19 Sep 20 Reply Another comment, generally with pictures like this you can turn them clockwise or counter clockwise to wherever you want if there is enough space around the subject. If you did that, I like where it is. I like the horizontal line of the wings and the vertical line of the body. Sep 10th
19 Sep 20 Comment Carroll didn't get the email about nature subjects this month. He must of been in China. this is a beautiful image and Carroll identified that it is a setup for photography. Great for most things, but not allowed in the Photo Travel Division, PTD, for competition. The problem of course is that judges must guess if it is a setup or not. Enjoy the beautiful well done image. It is likely to win awards in PID or PPD, but probably will not be accepted in PTD. Sep 9th
19 Sep 20 Comment A beautiful and unusual flower captured well. We are so conditioned to keep things out of the middle of our compositions, but sometimes I think we are better off not worrying too much about it. This is an example for me. I think I like it better cropped on the right to about where the dark area is just about all removed. Sep 9th
19 Sep 20 Comment Your time and effort paid off, this is a beautiful image. The moth is an unusual specimen and tack sharp showing great detail. The selection of f-stop and shutter speed worked perfect. The background went to just a beautiful green with little detail and the moth and closest flowers are sharp. The wing on the left seems a bit blurred, but somehow blending with the background flowers it works for me. Well done. Sep 9th
19 Sep 20 Comment An interesting subject. The nest and surrounding needles are nice and sharp and I like the contrasting green color. the larger blown out sky on the right is distracting and I think cropping it away might improve the image. You will loose part of the nest, but i don't think it matters significantly to the story you are telling Sep 9th
19 Sep 20 Comment Amazing, most of us picked nature type images.

This moth is nice and sharp and I like that only the two closest leaves are sharp and the other background leaves are softer going back to just a green color.

64 Sep 20 Comment We drove by the Chapel on the rock today. Yes we are back in Colorado on our way to Arizona for the winter. This time we went by the Chapel on the Rock about 9:30 in the morning, the right time of the day. The only thing that has been done to this is crop and convert to Black and White. No adjustments, no selective adjustments, nothing. Best to take pictures in the right light. I could make some adjustments to improve it but wanted you to see it as recorded. Sep 19th
64 Sep 20 Reply When Larry Treadwell mentioned the reflection on the pond, I actually wondered why I did not use an image with the reflection. You mentioned the statue on the hill above the chapel. That statue is why I did not include the reflection, I could not get both. Actually there is another reason, this image is not as good. Also minimal processing. It looks like the reflection needs to be processed selectively. Sep 18th
64 Sep 20 Reply I think I agree with Stuart, is this a foreground object or a distraction. In present form it is vey strong. Perhaps just crop to leave some of it in the lower left corner. Sep 11th
64 Sep 20 Reply We just held up on going to Oregon for a couple of weeks. Waiting for the fires to break or planning to go somewhere else this fall. Smoke shots are not what we are looking for. Sep 11th
64 Sep 20 Reply Thanks for the reply. You can still get reflections on the pond below the church. For some reason, I didn't pick one of those shots. When Pope Francis visited the USA a few years ago this was one of his stops. Sep 11th
64 Sep 20 Reply As the chair of a "reality" division, Photo Travel, PTD, I appreciate your comment. You are certainly correct, but you do not necessarily need to retain reality in PID or PPD. This is your option. Sep 10th
64 Sep 20 Reply There are times when we want to post something current, but don't have anything current that is what we would like to post. I am in that period right now. We are scheduled to spend a couple weeks in Oregon leaving on a road trip on a couple days. Hopefully I will have some new material if the fires don't get me and the smoke allows good photography. Pray for rain in Oregon. Sep 9th
64 Sep 20 Comment Jerry, you have a great eye to of seen this and visualized what you wanted to do with it. I can imagine you standing there waiting for that car and blasting away at a high frame rate and picking one where the car is right where you wanted it to be. You accomplished it very well. You might want to darken the vegetation on the right side of the road to be more like that on the left. Sep 9th
64 Sep 20 Comment You completed the planned assignment well, but I can't say I like the image that well. I am not a fan of images like this. If you can put something in it that is interesting and draws attention, I would prefer it. This might make a great background for something else or with a blending action add an interesting texture to some creative expression image. Sep 9th
64 Sep 20 Comment John has done a lot to educate us on monochrome. Not everyone defines it the same, but in any case, it is not just Black and White, that is a special case of monochrome where all tones are shades of grey from white to black. All tones can be shades of one color, not just of grey and this is an excellent example. I think I would stick with the crop selected because it provided a square format image which for me seems to work very well with this fine image. Sep 9th
64 Sep 20 Comment Interesting, I looked at the mono image and the original color and held up a paper to see where I would crop it and came to a similar conclusion as Don did. I think I like seeing enough to understand it better. Sort of like pictures of cowboys with 10 gallon hats, you don't need to include the whole hat to tell the story. That applies here. I feel that if you include the whole cylinder you include too much background, but if you crop just to include the end of the shaft, you have the whole story and not the distracting background. 64 Sep 20 Comment A very interesting stairwell capture. This one effectively concentrates on the geometric details in the railings and steps. When I looked at it I thought it might be a Jerry Funk image and am not at all surprised at his comment. Great range of tones and contrast of the details. Well done! Sep 9th
64 Sep 20 Comment A beautiful image captured with perfect symetry which is fitting for this image.I like the tones achieved in the conversion. All picture elements stand out from each other, and a good range of tones is included. I am glad you included the original color version because it makes it clear how the monochrome conversion enhanced the details in the clouds. I don't have any problem with the tones of the trees on either side, but perhaps doing something to make the structures on either side less obvious would help hold the eye on the subject. Sep 9th
