19 Oct 19 Reply An improvement in my opinion, but now it seems too blue to me for a night sky, or at least one that would support seeing the milky way this well. You might try decreasing the blue color in HSL and perhaps increasing the Luminosity of blue to darken the sky. Hard to say how this would work, but it might be fun to play with it. Oct 16th
19 Oct 19 Comment I like the image. The vivid colors and sharp detail in the foreground complimenting the washed out look soft look at the top provides a strong sense of depth and interest. I like the idea of darkening the top a bit, perhaps a gradient would work, but I have a feeling it would not work well. Darkening white or near white tends to turn grey and not be attractive. Sometimes you can do it with saturation increase, but I have a feeling it would not work well. Probably just enjoy it the way it is. Oct 16th
19 Oct 19 Comment I certainly did try it. This was prepared to not be put in PTD exhibitions. Note, no tree or pole. I think that is the only thing removed or added. The monochrome conversion was with NIK silver Efex. We did not manage to get in the building. It would be interesting to see how much the inside space follows the curves of the outside. Oct 16th
19 Oct 19 Reply I have considered cropping the tree on the right, but I didn't want it to get too crowded. I might yet do it. I generally plan these things to be able to go into PTD, and then I can't remove the street light on the right, but I might clone it out along with the tree for PPD or PID. Oct 9th
19 Oct 19 Comment This is a very nice composition. I like the way the milky way is framed by the rock mounds on either side and the distant rocks provide a base. The strewn rocks in the foreground provide a lot of depth. I would like to see more contrast in the image. I have not taken shots like this and am not very aware of the challenges, but perhaps someone else can say more about what I am feeling. Oct 7th
19 Oct 19 Comment Totally abstract, meaning I can't figure out quite what this is. I assume it is a wall, but what are the two figures on it? In any case it is well done and it looks like a John Hackett image. I envy you for your unique style, I am sort of an "all over the map guy", but I am starting to feel I have a style, or maybe only two or three of them. Oct 7th
19 Oct 19 Comment Great image. The shutter speed captured the spray of sweat and the ripples of the muscles. The background has enough detail to be real, but not enough to be a distraction. The colors and exposures of their bodies are great. You managed to position yourself to have a straight on shot so the ropes are level and parallel. Perhaps some of all this is processing, but it is well done if it is. Oct 7th
19 Oct 19 Comment An excellent image. I really like the way you processed this image. It was good right out of your phone, but it is great now. The colors in the grass and background really do the job. From your processing comments I am assuming this is a cell phone image. My image this month is also. Oct 7th

64 Oct 19 Comment A very interesting shot. Yes, I agree, I think cropping the ceiling down helps significantly. I have mixed emotions about cropping the left. I think the graffiti, or whatever it is, adds a lot of interest in a print hanging on a wall, but a judge is likely to consider it a distraction. A little distortion correction and leveling, perhaps with the transform function in Lightroom, or similar, might be in order to correct that the camera was tilted down as it had to be to get this. A capture to be proud of. I would hang it on a wall or include it in a book. Oct 17th
64 Oct 19 Comment I agree, to strengthen the story, I would like to see the board in better focus and then try to bring up its contrast a bit. Maybe boost the ISO a bit and take the f/7.1 up to f/11 or so would of increased the depth of field, but when you see an opportunity like this, you tend to shoot the way you are set up, and this is an excellent shot to treasure in the future. My wife Shirley just picked up a OMD EM 1 ii. Seems like a wondrous camera, I am envious. She was missing her Tamron 15- 300 she used when she shot Canon, so we picked up an Olympus 12-200 so when traveling she doesn't need to change lenses. She is happy! Oct 17th
64 Oct 19 Comment I think the composition of the image is excellent. Somehow it seems perfectly clear that the baby elephant is the center of attention. I think the haloing of backlight helps make this clear. The center of interest is centered in the frame, but that is no problem in this image. It is good that some elephant is blocking the sky at the top, and the elephant on the right is given some space to move into. Exposure of the elephants seems right on. Oct 17th
64 Oct 19 Reply I find it hard to get it framed just the way I want it as you can probably see in this uncorrected image. As Stuart indicates, "awkward to hold". I would want perfect symmetry in an image like this and I didn't achieve it. The phone seems to limit distortion more than I expect, but the camera is held pointing down at the stage resulting in a lot of perspective shift which I probably should correct if I am to take this image seriously. For this wide a lens the curvature in the top straight line is pretty good in my opinion for being so close to the edge. Oct 17th
64 Oct 19 Comment I like the image, it is very creative in my mind. I wish I could see things like this. I am not sure I like to see as much of the leaf in the lower right. I am wondering if the image could be rotated about 45 degrees CCW so you could crop some of this back a bit. You might be able to content aware fill or something to get enough black background to restore the left of the image in a vertical format. This idea might be a little over the top, but perhaps it could work. Oct 16th
64 Oct 19 Reply Shirley just checked with someone at Verizon asking if the new iPhone 11Pro is as good as the Samsung 10+ 5G. He said the Samsung camera is 110% better. Sounds like no comparison in his opinion. She would like the upgrade, but not the learning curve of changing vendors. Yes, I could correct perspective and straighten, but what you see is just a monochrome conversion and removing a few hot spots on the seats near the bottom edge. Oct 9th
64 Oct 19 Comment I think this is an excellent monochrome. It is interesting that it does not have the contrast and range of zones that one might think is required. Does that sound like a rule to break? I really like the tones you have used. I am wondering if it would be even better if you cropped the tall building on the left and ended that side with the low area. In any case, looks like a "wall hanger". Oct 7th
64 Oct 19 Comment I think this is an outstanding monochrome image, thanks for sharing it. It is sad to see things like this go away. How many tourists stood in about this spot and took the shot without including the tree, never knowing they missed the shot. The digital image I still consider my best early image is of Partition Arch in Arches National Park. I was back a number of years later and vegetation had changed it and I was disappointed. They added a wall on the viewpoint for Horseshoe Bend south of Page AZ and I am sure it is no longer the same shot. I have a shot destroyed by an earthquake in Christchurch that is a favorite, but we have these shots we love that can no longer be duplicated. Perhaps that is part of the beauty of photography.
