At 105mm and f/2.8 you don't have much depth of field. I understand that is what you wanted. When we work so hard on something tricky, I like to take a series of shots. You might try 4 or 5 at 2.8, 4.0, 5.6, and 8.0. You could pick the one you like the best. You might also layer them and use the f/8.0 for the center of the flower and the f/2.8 for the fringes of the image. Not the same of focus stacking which is to keep everything in focus, but that isn't what you were trying to do. You wanted selective focusing if I understand what you are saying. I also agree with the objective. |

I like the lighting the way it is, but we might be more aware of the details with the suggested crops. I really like that the background is totally blocked up with no detail. I like to do this in monochrome, but generally it might not work that great in color, but it works perfect here. Black is a color, so why not use it? Great image! |

I have a feeling that the f-stop provided adequate depth of field, but Norm does have a point. The flag out of focus is perfect, but cameras like to focus on the closest thing if you let them. This might be a perfect situation for "back button focus" or any system where you can focus on the eye and know that it stays locked on that while you shoot. I have the feeling that the mic might be in better focus than the eyes. |

Nice job. The 1 second exposure might be longer than needed, but I think it looks perfect in this image. You might want to try flipping it. I feel like the water sort of pulls me out the right, but flipped the trees hold me tight as I enter from the left. |

Speaking of a great American symbol, the story is going viral of one landing on a fire truck to be part of a 9/11 observation in Andover Minnesota. the link might take you to the story.

A very interesting monochrome. Normally we try to insure contrast between all the picture elements, but you have almost no contrast between the black of the car and much of the surrounding background. I think that is part of the strength of the composition. We are focused on those eyes just shining out from blackness. I like it. White is an acceptable tone of black and white. The feet might be blown a bit, but in this image it down't bother me. |

A good eye for creativity with a simple composition of every day things. I think that I agree with a crop to just below the hanging string. I feel the near horizontal line through the reflected balls detracts, but I like the lines going down to the lower right corner.

I think the results of your processing were very good. In getting the color right, the first thing I would do is take the "White Balance Selector" in Lightroom and click on a white stripe in the flag. This should make the balance right on the flag. The senator might be in different light and you might need to move a slider a bit. While I like the processing of the image, there seems to be something like a shadow from the head of the microphone, but it can't be that because it is on both his shoulder and the flag. I am guessing it is from processing. Overall a good image in a difficult situation. |

Georgianne, just visiting your group. This is a pretty incredible creation which you must be very proud of. I expect you will be entering this in exhibitions and it should do very well. |

It is a nit, but I would prefer to see that line at the bottom below her toes softened. |

I think I would like the minimalist approach and just a picture of the gum balls and leave the trees out. I am thinking perhaps crop in to a composition of gum balls that is interesting and artistic. If you are not trying to blur the trees, you appear to have plenty of light to stop down to maybe f/16 or even f/22 to hold everything in focus. Even underexposed you have silhouette black balls anyway. I appreciate your artistry in enjoying the compositions in this scene. |

I like Natalia much better this month. I think this is well done. Waterfalls are often a problem unless they come out of continuous woods at the top. The sky is generally pretty blown if it is in these shots. I would prefer the crop to give the waterfall more room, but the sky would not be great. The knees over the waterfall don't bother me. My only suggestion is almost trivial, but you might want to clone or crop the white line on the rock at the bottom.

I really like that the people are there and well placed to add interest and provide scale. The halo in this image would be easy to take out. Clone from up close with a setting of "darken" and all should go well. I think it would be best to take out the building. It should be easy to clone from the trees. The original is almost a tinted monochrome and I think I also like it the best. The image is blessed with the natural light spot over the point to draw attention. Very nice. |

The disjoint between the halfs certainly holds your attention to try to understand it. Yes, that bright spot needs to go but it isn't easy with the black curve that needs to be placed. I like cameras that lay flat looking exactly vertical when you lay them on their backs. You can put them on the floor pointing up and it is like putting them on a tripod. The floor plus 2 or 10 seconds to get out of the image works great. As I get older it gets more important. |

OK, I spent part of my comment but would like to make one more. I don't have any problem with a pure white or black sky in a monochrome. In a color, they just don't go well with no "color", but white and black seem to be perfectly acceptable in mono to me. Often a bit of detail in "almost white or almost black" just look distracting or muddy to me. I don't have any problem with the white sky. |

I can' resist commenting on Stuart's comments before I even get to making my own. I almost missed the building until I read Stuart's comment. I like the title giving prominence to the building to make it clear the photographer considered it important. Otherwise it seems like a distraction. I agree with Stuart's comment, the shutter speed seems perfect, the flow of the water is much better in mono than in color. For some reason I can't make this appear as a comment on Stuart's, I don't know why. |

OK, obviously I wasn't all that happy with the mono, that is why I went back to selective color. Color it will be in the future. By the way, I think I missed the focus point. The leaves seemed sharper than the front of the flower. The mono seemed to hide that a bit. Probably with getting 1/400 sec at 60mm, I should of closed down the aperture a bit to get more depth of field. f/8 or maybe a bit further probably would of been better. |

A great example of a monochrome that is much better than the color image. The concentration on lines is excellent. The color detracts from this. I toy with trying to make a constructive comment about the image. I don't think the bricks are a significant issue. there are two things you might want to consider. One would be very easy. It appears you wanted to keep the frame around the window and I understand that, but I wonder if a tighter crop on the top might work. A harder thing might be to clone the lines on the table up through the hot spots with a very low opacity and set to "darken" to bring a trace of these lines through the hot spot. A very nice image. |
