I really like this unusual treatment and appreciate your telling us how you did it. While I think this is a really interesting shot, it is always interesting to suggest something. That camera of yours can blast away at an enormous number of frames per second. You might want to try to grab one with a minimum of flowers actually obscuring his face. I sometimes like to keep creative effects off some main part of the image like faces or heads of birds or animals. |

I prefer to have nice clean skin in these model shots. This model just does not seem to have it. I think you are correct that trying to correct it is going to result in skin with no detail and an over made up appearance. You have the lighting right on which is one of the main things in these model workshops. |

I think the original is wonderful which the exception of the lighter leaf with detail in the lower right. I would do something with that. That leaf in the update you posted is much better. You want to use all the zones of the zone system from 0, true black, to 10, white. I think you have done that. You need to be careful with the white to not have any significant areas without detail. I don't think you have any loss of detail and I think this is right on. Tempting to go out and buy some seeds. Will these grow in Minnesota? |

I sometimes like to comment first to not be influenced by others. Then it is also nice to see other comments first. I like digital dialog with it allowing comments on comments. I always enjoy Tracy's comments. She sees many things that I enjoy hearing about. The treatment of the weathered doors is great. I don't know if I would notice the floor difference without it being mentioned. Perhaps it should be processed in some way, or maybe the contrast in treatment is just fine. |

This is a high impact image. Very nice. The crop worked well, that lily pad had to go. With the wet fish, you might want to try future shots with a polarizer filter. You will lose a stop or so of light but it should reduce reflections on the fish. That might tone down the bright spots. In any case, this is a very nice image. |

Nostalgia images are reliable to generate a positive reaction and interest. This is a good one with nice simple content. You might want to try for a bit more contrast. I am not sure it has a "true black" as an example. I would consider darkening the right hand horse a bit to be similar to the left head. You might want to crop the left a bit. I don't think you need as much on the left and the image is pretty centered left to right. |

I wanted a soft background, but perhaps I should of been more careful of where the camera focused. You can note that the leaves just behind the flower are tack sharp. My camera does not have built in flash and I rarely carry a flash unless I know I will need it. |

I think that is a significant improvement. Obviously you can't do what you did in Photo Journalism or Photo Travel, but in PID or PPD you can make modifications to your hearts content. You might as well make improvements. |

I would certainly be willing to do the presentation. The stars were created in camera. Notice that this is only at f/8 and there are stars. I didn't think of it before, but I wonder if the micro 4/3 sensor has something to do with that. f/8 will be a smaller diameter aperture than it would be at APS or full 35mm. I believe that would be more prone to create stars. |

The touch of near white of the mantis attracts the eye immediately in my mind. It is clear what the picture is about. You need the very light area to show the curve of the back of the elephant, but you may not need as much of it. I think a closer crop on the top eliminates your concern about a light area distraction. Now it becomes a high contrast to the back of the elephant, a plus in my mind. I don't know how close I would want to crop this. I might eliminate some of the elephant's body, but I am not sure that improves the image. |

I like the flip. She is better looking left. The textures are great. This is a good image, but I find myself distracted a bit by the dark area behind her lifted foot. I guess it is just because I didn't understand it. It seems clear it is an opening in the wall in the color version. |

The lighting is perfect. Hard to beat soft natural light from a window and you nailed the exposure. This image should be a real winner. I at first reacted that I might like a bit more detail in the hair, but then thought Why? If this doesn't win medals, I would bring out more detail in the hair. I can't think of anything else that might prevent a medal. I sometimes think that details in the image not where you want the viewer to look are just distractions. The eyes are great. |

I am having a difficult time understanding how this can be a sculpture with the water spilling off the whale near the eye and the wonderful water background. I understand this is a sculpture, but the environment it is in is incredible. Great shot and good warning for judges. How do we judge and not be fooled by things like this? |

What is that horse doing on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the building? You certainly are going to create a lot of interest with this image.I like your composition with the four windows and the horse looking into the image. |

A great image. I sometimes get tempted to convert a camera for infrared. You have made me think of it again. A perfect scene for IR. The near white leaves and the reflection in the water is wonderful. The fountain is a well placed bonus. |

I am sorry, I should of mentioned this is on a tripod. We normally take international trips with one tripod and share it. While we don't take it out during the daytime, we do take it with us in the evening. |
