51 Feb 22 Reply Thank you for your comments. I agree that adding a faux mat helped this image. In addition to separating the dark parts from the web page, I think it adds a little depth too. I think I need to stop using a faux mat, though, because it can be a crutch to improve an image that might otherwise be less interesting. I can't be sure, but in the future I may just use a tiny border if I need to lift an image off the page. Time will tell, as they say.

51 Feb 22 Reply Thanks, Dave. I thought it made an interesting study of light and shadow. I have some other shots of this building, so I may submit another later this year.

51 Feb 22 Reply Thank you for your kind words. I actually submitted this image to a salon for "Light and Shadow," but received a rejection. Of course, the result of any judging is the choice of the juror, so one cannot be discouraged.

51 Feb 22 Reply I had to look up Mondrian, so I learned something new - which is always good. I wasn't familiar with his work. Thank you for you for your comments, and for the pointer to Mondrian.

As a side note: Some of Mondrian's "Compositions" made me think of FLWright's windows and other decorations. I wonder if there's a connection.

51 Feb 22 Reply Thank you, Lynne, for your kind words. Attached is a photo of that section of the building. I was on the other side of the blue rectangle looking left to right. You can see the shadow cast on the rectangle and imagine it as it appears in my photo. I have other shots of the building with different bright colors and shadows. I may submit one or two in the coming months.

51 Feb 22 Comment I remember a discussion several years ago - in another forum - about "photographing someone else's art". That could apply to art ranging from a building designed by an architect to the illegal tag on a rail car. Hard to sort it all out. I think Dave's response is good. As long as one does not try to make money, establish a positive reputation, or support illegal activity using other people's work, then no harm done.

As a side note, I have an acquaintance who is a well-respected photographer who learned one of his photos won a competition in Russia - except he didn't enter it. Someone stole his image and claimed it was their own.

51 Feb 22 Comment Now that's a winter scene! The trees are laden with heavy wet snow. It looks cold. The road provides a nice leading line into the scene, and also gives the viewer the relief of a way to escape the cold and snow. Nicely seen and photographed.

51 Feb 22 Comment For me, the BW version is the right way to show this gritty scene. I think it could use even more contrast to indicate the depth of the furnace, and maybe a bit of vignette to push the viewer's eyes into the back (center) of the scene. That must be an interesting place to visit with lots of things to photograph. Good shot.

51 Feb 22 Comment Nice feeling in this shot. It's like the sun is sinking below the hills and the Saguaro is waving goodby to it. Or I suppose it could be the sun rising and the cactus is greeting it. Either way it's a nice shot.

51 Feb 22 Comment As you may know, I like BW images, so this edit immediately captures my interest. I like the way the vignette removes the distractions and highlights the main interest. I like the sharp focus that allows the viewer to see the textures in the dry flowers. The main stem takes my eyes into the center. BW seems to fit the condition of the flowers, too. Overall, very nicely done. If I had a suggestion, it might be to crop up from the bottom a little.

51 Feb 22 Comment I like the result of your experiments. The tree shape and lighting remain, and the motion adds interest. Sort of a tinsel effect. Coincidently, ten days ago I used a DSLR to do some similar experimentation (in the daytime) with bare trees and blue sky.
Great minds...
