Hello, Michael. I've dropped in from Group 51. I like your image and I prefer the mono version. If your intended subject was the dogs and not the bicycle - and as Diana mentioned - it would be good to have a bit more space on the right side to help to remove the tension of the out-of-frame glance of the dogs. I hope you don't mind that I fiddled a bit with your image. I used PS to add to the right and subtract from the left. I also used gradients to push the viewer's eye to the white dogs. |

Absolutely true. When that train horn sounded, it was a bit of a surprise! I wasn't in any real danger, but if there hadn't been a crossing a few blocks away, I might have been. A lesson learned. |

Thank you for you comments. I enjoy how you use words to describe and enhance a scene. |

Thank you for your interest and comments on my image. I also enjoy monochrome. I occasionally submit BW images to this group, and I generally do a "test" BW conversion on most of my shots. Sometimes I like the BW, and sometimes I prefer the color version. As I mentioned to Jerry above, I also captured this scene with 35 mm Ilford HP5. That BW film has excellent contrast and adds some lovely grain, too. I'll have to start following Group 32. Thanks. |

Thanks, Jerry. I also shot this scene with 35mm BW film. I like that version, too. The elevators are very much still in use in this small town on the plains. See also my note to Richard below. |

The rails are in use. Right after I snapped this shot, I heard a train horn behind me. I turned to see the engine about three blocks away. I quickly (!) stepped off the tracks and watched the train pass from a safe distance. |

Sol, this is great. It's a very creative interpretation of an otherwise mild image. Lots of fun to look at. I like the text and the colors. Nice. |

What a good and creative idea! The results are very nice. The colors come through very well and the bubbles add to the result. I think the image is pretty amazing. Nice job. |

I like that the sign seems handmade. I agree that it probably isn't completely effective that way. However, as you mention an official-looking sign might not do any better these days. Nice capture of the seashore and the sign adds extra interest. Nice shadows. I like the breaking wave, too. |

Interesting location and story about the history of the area. These abandoned places speak to us about our past and how things have changed. It's unfortunate that someone beat you to publishing a book about them. Nice shot. |

What a cute little guy. Nice shot of the child captured in a happy moment. I'm sure you are a proud grandfather. I like the black background that isolates and emphasizes the subject. Well done. |

Nice use of the natural formations to frame the scene. As Jerry mentioned, you included near, middle, and far elements to draw the viewer into the scene. Nice shot. |
