Thanks all for your perceptive comments! This was one evocative emotional photoshoot for me! An entire prison complex on a remote mountaintop shrouded in utter foggy silence. And preserved remnants of the lives led by hundreds (thousands?) of prisoners in confinement with razor wire fences everywhere. I suspect faith was a last refuge for many of them. So I was struck by this scene with the psalm carefully taped to the wall, confining fences outside and everything frozen in a past era of hand-cranked pencil sharpeners. |

A flower image with impact! The Lensbaby selective focus works well here with the flower center sharp. However, I do agree that placing the flower off-center makes for a more dynamic composition. As for the "thing in the center", I lean toward liking it. It draws my eye to the flower center. However, you might consider toning it down just a bit. Overall, well-done! |

A compelling hi-key creation and well-done! Even tho you intentionally overexposed, I don't see any blown-out areas. Moreover, I think the bright light helped to emphasize the hairs on the stem and sepals of the flower. I don't mind the cropped-off petals as my eye is drawn to the green area. I agree that the original crop creates tension in the image, but I lean towards the "more relaxing" 8 x 10 crop. I look forward to more hi-key images! |

A great capture of the Bald Eagle in a regal pose! There is detail in the eye and feathers are sharp. I agree that the light background competes with the main subject. One way to deal with this is to reduce this distracting background by cropping in from the left side (which is only branches). You can go from a third to halfway across - giving the image a square or even a vertical format and making the Eagle more dominant in the scene. |
