An original approach to flower photography! Unlike many conventional macro images that emphasize the whole blossom and/or combinations of color, this image is a study in lines and curves. The viewer's eye is drawn inward to the spiral of the petal edges. Exposure is well-controlled and texture readily apparent. Nicely done! |

This image has much creative potential and compelling beauty. The tree branches form an intricate web. They seem to be outlined in halos, but this adds to an effect of mystery and complements the fog in the background. I especially like the 2 birds (boats?) in background which add a sense of depth and scale. However, I find that the vignette is too intense in the bottom third of the image, and I feel that this area does not add much to the overall scene. Cropping up (almost to the base of the tree) to remove this area would strengthen the composition. Overall, tho, a creative image! |

Well-composed and framed image of a weathered boat. The diagonal position of the boat adds a feeling of movement, as if the boat is ready to take off. The worn paint and wood texture also add interest. The bottom of the boat is a bit overexposed but can be toned down by burning. Overall, well-done! |

I think this is one of your best to date! Dragonfly and foreground flower are sharp throughout; dragonfly shows detailed wing texture. Background is muted and mostly non-distracting, but retains sufficient detail to provide context. Colors blend harmoniously. I would crop down about 10-20% from the top and tone down the bright spot at the mid right edge (by burning). With these corrections, this image should be suitable for competition. |
