Hi, Helen,
I'll be happy to tell you how my photo is made. I use 2 layers to create this montage image. The original 1 is background layer, original 2 is layer 2, which need to cut out a part you need and add to background layer 1. After combined usually need be fine-tuning to make two photos border seamless. I also attached couple of photos with different big waves for your reference.

You have a perfect cropping to create a new image. Now you can clearly show the graffiti on the rocks, that's what you want to shoot. Evan I would like crop out more around and brighter the rock area to get focus more on graffiti on the rocks. |

Great journalism photo. You captured a image of simple and cut
children in countryside. Special left side little girl with lovely smile. This should be winning reward photo. I also like your original photo. |

Nice city landscape picture. Seems you have two major subjects; one is the buildings on left, the other is Ferris wheel, which is brighter with blue color. It is different than other area. and attracted my eyes when I am looking for the image. I think you might try to reduce the brightness of Ferris wheel or raise the contrast and brightness on the right-side area. Thus, can balanced left and right. |

Nice composition and capture, you follow the 1/3 rule, the subject is at left down side corner.
I would made little adjustment of cooler tone and the grasses will greener. Also Raise the contrast and sharper, the cranes will stand out. Also, I cropped a little around the frame to make the cranes bigger. |

Tom, As you pointed out "the texture and spots of rust on the gears and shaft" is most important feature you liked and want to capture. It is really telling the old history. I am interested how many years of this machine, more than 100 years? because I was a mechanical engineer.
You flipped the photo is very helpful and better than original, because people are used to seeing things from left to right.
I agree Hoshedar's comment to remove the piece of metal jutting out on the top left corner. |
