That would have been a good idea. Thank you for your suggestion. |

It is part of an Old Spanish mission in San Antonio, Texas. The image was not bracketed. There were doors on the right side, and it went to an opening at the end to a walkway. |

Nice simple image that tells a good story. They all look good enough to eat (and drink). The directional lighting looks very good. The wine bottle being taller and on the far right (and fading to black) holds the eye in the image. Very well done, I would not change a thing. |

Interesting image of one tree being broken off with the rest all standing. Good compositing with your focusing in on the falling tree. Like Paul mentioned, the image does not look as sharp as it could be. Maybe your shutter speed of 1/3rd second was a bit slow, and you could have raised the ISO a bit and had a sharper image. |

Great capture of the jet and the birds. The partly cloudy sky makes a good background. As Paul said, it looks like the birds are too close to the jet, and they would win out if the jet hit them! |

Very nice grouping of 5 flowers. They are all super sharp with great depth of field and well lighted. For a flash image, the lighting is soft and there are no shadows behind the flowers. The background color is a good one, and the border is a nice added touch. I am glad that you, "had to take a pic!" and shared with us. |

Nice image with a good blurred background. The iris leaves don't seem as green as normal. Is the color off, or is it just like you said, approaching sunset so the light is more yellow than normal. |

You have a very nice image to start with, which I would think would help with a good textured image. I have never tried to add a texture but it does sound like a good thing to try. The flowers have a lot of texture themselves, so looking at the image, I can not see a lot of the texture on them. The texture does hide the details in the background which helps the image. Like Paul said, it would be nice to see the image where you masked the flowers. |

Your crop to 4 bottles certainly does simplify the image. I like that the bottles are at different distances from the front. |

Thank you for this image. Having some detail in the sky is good. It might be leaning a bit to the right. I was just playing with the technique. |

I do that also, get so focused on the subject of an image that I don't see the bigger picture. That is why these study groups can be so helpful. |

Your conversion to mono really helped the image and made it much sharper. You captured a very good looking bull elk with him looking right at you. Thank you for the story of the image. I would crop off a bit (maybe a 1/4th or 1/3rd) of the out of focus grass at the bottom, to make it a less of a distraction. |

Thank you for the story about the olive oil brand. The composition is good with the SOM bottles being more toward the center with them taller and closer to the edge than the bottles close to them. And the SOM label is more striking which make them the center of interest. You did a good job of editing to get rid of the distortion. I like the crop that Wes suggested. |

You have a very nice image of the bird. I like the curve in the bird, and that the head is turned facing the camera. It looks very sharp and you have a catch light in the eye. I think that the tone of the background is perfect. The small twig in front of the bird makes me wonder if it had something on it the the bird had been eating, which adds some mystery to the image. I haven't competed in or judged an exhibition for several years so I don't know what would go now. One thought about entering nature in an open class is the the judges may think that it should be in nature, but that is just a thought and may not be something to worry about. I would suggest that you enter it in an exhibition and see what happens. It is a nice image. |

It looks fine on my computer screen, but too bad you are not happy with enlarging it. It is sharp and has lots of detail. Of course the skiers add a lot to the image. I like the composition with the curve in the track. I would crop off some on the right, as that area has nothing important to the image. |

The image of the slinky is sharp and has good depth of field. I like the lighting that has light and dark areas. The color choice is a good one. Slinky toys have been around for a long time (over 80 years), and they are still popular. |

Nice composition to have the driftwood piece placed where it is to be the center of interest. It looks like parts of the driftwood is not as sharp as it could be. Overall, a pleasing image. |

Nice shot of the dogwood flowers. It is sharp and has good depth of field. I agree with Bob that the white in the upper right is a distraction. |

Andrew, it looks like you did about as good as you could under the circumstances. The fern is well lighted and exposed. It looks to be quite a ways away, and yet looks sharp. The composition is very good. What distracts from the image for me is the brown stem in the lower left. I used the content aware fill in Photoshop and then did some clean-up. Not as good as I would have liked, but then working with a small jpeg image is not ideal. |
