Albino looks like it was cropped in too much, but has a good background. Leaf insect is very interesting with such a long nose, and looks sharp. The mayfly has good dept of field, a good background and looks sharp. The spider has good dept of field and a good background. Most insects are taken from the top, not the bottom, but it is interesting and you captured the spider web. |

Three is the classic number for composition, and you carried that out very well here by creating a triangle. The white duck does have quite a head dress, very unusual. I like the reflections and the composition. It does appear that the closer black duck is out of focus and maybe you needed more dept of field. As a suggestion, I would open up the shadows on the heads of the 2 black ducks as they seem to not have much detail. |

What a beautiful location. You are lucky to have such a location near your home. I like both images, but like the monochrome better as presented. The color image to me has too much brown rocks in the foreground. The color would look better to me if some of the rocks were cropped off. When you say that you stacked the images, I am thinking that it was focus stacking since the image has such great depth of field. |

Great timing to capture the bee approaching the flower. I like the framing provided by the flowers. The thumbnail image on the website caught my eye, but the larger image looks pixelated like you cropped it in too much. |

What a great, very sharp image of the tiny bird. You have great depth of field with sharpness from beak tip back toward the folded wing tip. The wing tip being out of focus is not a problem at all. The background is blurred and not all white. It is true that the background is very light, but you have separation from the background and the bird. I also like the composition. Would not change a thing. |

Nice sharp image of the beautiful butterfly. You were luck to capture the wings open and you used the correct angle to have it sharp from wing tip to wing tip. I do agree with Hoshedar that you should crop off some on the right, as it is not needed and draws from the butterfly. It is very realistic and does not look like a flash image and no shadows showing. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Like a lot of us, I have a hard time seeing improvements to my own images. In my case, I see what I like in an image and then do not look any more. |

It was a stormy night. We took photos at the train yard. The train goes out a few miles along the main road, and then turns around and then comes back. There are several places that you can photograph it. |

I use a GPS, but like to Google the route, and can find interesting places that way. When Carol and I explored an area, we purchased detailed maps in Gazetteer paper back books, and drove some of the side roads. One of the trips through the west we happened to stop in Ely, NV and saw the steam trains there, near Great Basin National Park. That is sure a desolate area where they had signs about the next gas station being 100 miles. |

I really like the color better also, but this is a mono group, and I thought that all of the texture would be a good mono subject. |

This is an interesting location, that I had never heard of. I like it, and like the darker but not too dark sky version the best -- the third version shown. |

I like the main image better, as it seems to have more contrast than the "original". You did a good job of recreating the top. You have good composition with all of the lines bringing the eye to the numbers that seems to be the brightest thing in the image. The border helps the image. |

Of course the floor pattern makes this image. I think that you have plenty of depth of field, and it is the pot not being polished makes it look like it is not sharp. It was a good idea to convert to mono as the blue in the floor would otherwise be a distraction. I like the composition and that the pot has grey instead of white which creates separation. Like you suggested, you should polish the pot, and clean the inside so that there are no hairs. It would be good if you could also eliminate the harsh white area from the overhead light. I hope to see you next try. |

That is an interesting editing technique, thanks for sharing with us. I think that it is a good try on a high key image. I like the composition with it being centered and leaving three leafs on the stem. Having the stem fade is a good approach. However, the white flowers seem to be lost against the white background. |

I agree with Lynne that the top rose is a bit too dark, and with Wes that you need a small border because of the black image edges and the black webpage. A suggestion would be to have the top roses closer to the bottom rose next time, they seem to me to be too separated. I would also suggest that you have the stem go down to the bottom of the image, as they seem to be floating now. That said, I do like the image and the lighting on the roses. |

The deep blue Colorado sky helped you get a black monochrome sky which is effective. You have a lot of detail in the silver roof. It is a nice simple image with some impact. I am not sure about competition, but you should try it. A suggestion is that you made the shadow area under the roof on your monochrome conversion too dark. |
