7 May 20 Reply Thanks for that suggestion. It would look look more realistic if I did that then to make it look like blue sky. May 14th
7 May 20 Reply It is a park ranger tracing a name for a person that was visiting the wall. Luckily the ranger was wearing green. May 13th
7 May 20 Comment Did you use a filter to make the sun flare? The flare is very effective. I like the color better, for one thing because the sea area in the black and white seems to look like it could be rocks, and it also has more grain. You really did capture a big wave, and I think that it shows up better in the color. May 9th
7 May 20 Comment For such an enlargement, the image is very sharp. I say that you have located an interesting building. I also think that you have selected the "best" part of the building, and I like your crop. The composition is also good. The lighting is good to bring out the pealing paint. The mold adds to the image. I think that the the image invokes some mystery as the viewer wonders what is in the black area. May 9th
7 May 20 Comment The tree itself is very interesting with the colors and texture. Then you captured a good shadow of it. The lighting is great and it is very sharp. I like the composition with the strong diagonal and the fence makes an excellent background. My one suggestion would be to clone out the lower shadow in the far left corner. It pulls my eye from the main shadow. You have a very good photographer's eye to have seen this. May 9th
7 May 20 Comment Very nice image with the lighting only on the old artist. It is very sharp and shows her intent on her work. I think that your conversion to sepia is good and appropriate. I am glad that you added a boarder so that the dark edges are not lost on this black website page. A suggestion would be to clone out the bright spots on the right side as they really draw my eye. May 9th
7 May 20 Comment I really like the bright colors and the sharpness. However, I do agree with Rich that the white fence area is a distraction since it is the brightest part of the image. May 9th
7 May 20 Comment Great lighting. The image is also sharp where it needs to be with a nicely blurred background. The bright colors have a lot of impact. The composition is very good, with the sharp area in a power point position, and the stem a lead in to it. I do not see any way to improve it. May 9th
7 May 20 Reply Thanks for your comments. Making the corner more wall would not be at all accurate. But I do agree with you that the area is a real problem. I darkened it a lot, but it does still look bad. Maybe I should just make it blue sky? But then, the tree is reflected on the wall. May 2nd
7 May 20 Reply Stephen, thanks for your comments. I had not looked at it that way. You presented an interesting point and idea about the image. May 2nd

32 May 20 Reply A photo journalism image should tell a story, and the title should add to it. Think about a sports or other image in the newspaper, they have a title to inform you. Also, in most PSA salons, the PJ titles are read. In PSA pictorial salons, the titles are not read. The judges only see the image in front of them and judge only on the image. For the DD groups, I think that a title can help explain the subject. May 20th
32 May 20 Reply The real idea of the image is the reflection in the sun glasses. It really does not matter if he was working on the sand castle or not. The title of an image should really not matter until it is a photo journal image. A pictorial image should carry itself without a title. May 20th
32 May 20 Reply Wanting more around him is a very "England" comment. You all like to see more around the subject and we in USA like to zoom in more. I agree that separation is needed, and I can work on the in the color image before I convert to monochrome. Thanks for your comments. May 18th
32 May 20 Comment This is a very simple image with white on black. It looks very sharp and your lighting in good. I like the black background better than the white. May 5th
32 May 20 Comment Conversion to mono was a good choice and you did a good job with the conversion. I think that you crop to get rid of the bikes and the 2 partial girls on the left was a good decision. I do like Lynne's further crop to concentrate more on the people and ladders. May 5th
32 May 20 Comment I can see why you color image has done very well. The reflection is good, and it is a classic vanishing point image. In the mono image, the reflection is not as clear and for some reason it has a busier look. May 5th
32 May 20 Comment I think that your straight on, centered composition is effective. You monochrome conversion is good. It looks to me that you are having a depth of field issue, which is common in macro photography. I would stick with your 30mm lens, but use a smaller lens opening to get more depth of field. The reason to use a longer lens for macro is to be further from you subject, like an animal that would move. The longer lens will have less depth of field. May 5th
32 May 20 Comment Yes, the conference was not at the best time of the year to be in the Palouse. I think that you did a good job of what you had. I do like the mono better since the colors are not that pretty. I played with your original to get the full S curve into the image. I did not do nearly as good as you in conversion to mono, but I did reverse the image, to make the S more of a lead in, and to put the trees into a better position for composition. What do you think? May 5th
32 May 20 Reply Yes, that is also something that I can try when I redo this image. There is some blue in the sky that I should be able to darken, but then use a mask so that the sun glasses are not also darkened. That would add separation between the hat and the sky. May 5th
32 May 20 Reply Thank you for your comments. Just image for now that the partial green item is gone. I will wait to make any changes until I get all of the comments. May 4th
32 May 20 Reply As I remember, it is a tube that he used to blow loose sand away. If you think that it is a distraction, then it could be cloned out. May 4th

36 May 20 Comment Quite a story and quite an image. You should be very proud of it. If you had been looking for a bear, you would never have seen one. May 2nd
