Ian, what a dreamy, relaxing picture! I could sit and look at this and feel all my worries melting away! You have taken a beautiful scene and turned it into a delightful picture. Funnily enough, I was trying out the Orton effect a few days ago, but didn't get anything as good as this.
The diagonal composition works well and the fact that the boat is going out of the frame seems to add to the relaxed feeling. Lighting is superb and your overall treatment is brilliant! |

Clearly they don't have a No Smoking policy in this place of work! I have seen cigar making in Cuba but never in the USA. I like the diagonal composition of the workbench and the supervisor at the end. It is interesting to see that the cigars are still hand-rolled. No machinery here! The image is sharp and full of interest - the more you look, the more you see. I notice there is a Cuban flag at the back on the left - presumably Cuban tobacco? I look forward to reading your article. |

Good choice to go mono on this one Vella, because boosting contrast on the colour image would not have had the same drama. The symmetrical composition leads the eye right up to the details at the end of the passage. Well done for making a picture out of this. |

Interesting modification, Bill. Personally, I don't like removing fixed items in an identifiable scene (streetlamps), although I have done occasionally. Your increase in saturation works nicely. |

Great shot, Bill. I wonder how long these old structures will last before a good storm takes them down completely. Paula and I spent a few days in the Palouse some years ago, and it really is a great place to go. Superb sky that looks like it is exploding from the old building. Lovely light and good use of the vignette. |

Isaac, I love the lighting which goes really well with the natural dawn light. I like the extra bit of structure at bottom right as it forms a good lead-in to create a diagonal effect in the composition, allowing you to place the main structure off-centre. Great clouds and dawn light. |

Nice one Gary. This is one of the classic views of this castle and I think you have nailed it really well. I would not have known the sky was put in afterwards - nice work. I feel that there is a slight tilt which needs correcting. I might also take just a thin slice off the sky to bring the castle forward. |
