4 Feb 23 Reply Thnks Bill. It was a grab shot with no time to reframe. Feb 23rd
4 Feb 23 Reply Hi Ian. Thanks for your comments. Quite a lot of Lincolnshire is flat, but Lincoln itself is perched on a steep hill. The cathedral and the castle are right at the top. At the bottom there is a lake, Brayford Pool, which is linked to the Foss Dyke Canal and to the River Witham. It has been a city since 1072. Feb 17th
4 Feb 23 Reply Well remembered, Isaac. I took a look back as you suggested and they would form an excellent panel of images. Feb 12th
4 Feb 23 Reply Gary, the healing brush in ON1 is probably the best one to try but in the current software it cannot be scaled or distorted. However the next update, due out next week, promises to make good that deficiency so I'll wait to see how that works out. Feb 11th
4 Feb 23 Reply Gary, that is impressive. When PS went subscription only, I opted to go for ON1 so I only have PS CS6. ON1 is very impressive too and I am still finding my way round it. I'll take another look at getting rid of the trash on the left. Feb 9th
4 Feb 23 Comment Great action shot Ian. You have caught the boat just in time. A fraction of a second later it would have started to obscure the buoy. The image is sharp and the following boat is just nicely out of focus so that it complements the composition without intruding. Excellent timing and choice of camera settings. Feb 8th
4 Feb 23 Comment Congratulations on your articles Erik.
I visited the Palouse once for a few days and really loved it. That was back in May 2012. My favourite location for shooting was on Steptoe Butte. You could drive all the way round and take shots of the surrounding scenery for the whole 360 deg.
I like this one because the dusting of snow gives the scene an extra dimension. The partly hidden farm buildings form the main subject and the tree in the bottom left corner provides a good visual anchor.
Now here's an interesting thing. I took a look back at my images from the Palouse and found this one. Just a quick crop and brighten up. No significant processing. Funny how we must have chosen almost the same shooting position.

4 Feb 23 Comment Vella, what wonderful colours! I think you got it just right, and the composition is good too. You were right to clone out the vehicles on the road. My only suggestion is to darken the road so that it does not distract. Feb 8th
4 Feb 23 Comment Bill, this is a different view of a church. It is sharp, and has good contrast. I am also fascinated because I have never seen horizontal organ pipes before so this for me is a very memorable image. Whilst I agree with Gary about symmetry, any attempt to put the lamp in the centre would distort the structure to an unacceptable level, and would not change the perspective on the lamp. As it is, the slight asymmetry is not very noticeable because all the structure is well balanced. The organ can never be perfectly symmetrical because the length of each pipe is tuned to its own note so they are all different sizes.

I just had a look at the colour version in Group 44. I think b/w is far better.

4 Feb 23 Reply Erik, you have a very good eye for verticals. Regarding that rubbish bin, see my reply to Gary. I like your crop. I will make the change. Thanks for your input. Feb 8th
4 Feb 23 Reply Gary, here is the original which was pretty much a grab shot so not much time to compose. As you can see, there is more rubbish to the left of the waste bin with not enough surrounding detail to be able to clone it out. I tried to make it darker and less saturated but it still looked distracting. I considered cropping more on the left but thought it would make the image too narrow, and I didn't want to bring in more on the right because that would have moved the main subject too far to the left. However, Erik's crop looks good so maybe I'll do that. Feb 8th
4 Feb 23 Comment Well rather him than me! Can you imaging suddenly wanting to sneeze in the middle of the act? An interesting sequence of pictures. Feb 7th
4 Feb 23 Comment Gary, that is some very impressive work, and a good example of how to deal with such difficult lighting. Well chosen composition too, using the extreme wide angle to capture the whole scene. As Isaac has pointed out, it also shows the belt drives used for all the machinery. Feb 7th

31 Feb 23 Reply Ella, your picture reminds me of one I took some years ago of a pine needle suspended on a single strand of cobweb. As it was in colour I won't show it on a mono group, but I tried it in a club competition and let's just say the judge didn't share my view of the world! Feb 15th
31 Feb 23 Comment Visiting from Group 4 - Hi John. I agree about Salford Quays being a great place for photography. I like what you did here - you've given me a few fresh ideas. Feb 15th
31 Feb 23 Comment Visiting from Group 4. Love it! I bet this is a challenge to competition judges! Feb 15th
