4 Feb 21 Comment My first reaction was the same as Isaac's. If a tsunami had really struck, the cafe would have had all its windows smashed in. My second reaction was the same as yours, that Brighton beach is all shingle except at low tide when a small amount of sand shows. I don't think the notices on the lampposts would have survived either. However, such 'trivialities' can be ignored as 'artistic licence'!!! The image is nice and sharp and it can be difficult sometimes to find a good vantage point from which to record this sort of film set work. It is a pity you just cropped the tyre at the base of the image. Feb 9th
4 Feb 21 Comment I like the positioning of the man in the frame, looking to his right into empty space, a metaphor pehaps for his future. However, I share Isaac's view that the large area of plain white is distracting. My solotion to this is to select the white area and use a Curves layer in the separate Red and Blue channels to put some colour into the area, then a second Curves layer on the same selection to pull the black point way over to the right to the base of the histogram to put contrast into the wall and pull out some detail. Fianlly, merge to a new layer and apply the Shadows/Highlights adjustment at the default setting to bring out the detail in the blacks then use another Curves layer to restore contrast. Feb 9th
4 Feb 21 Comment Vella, what a wonderful display of fall colours. It's funny and also interesting how we all see things differently. I think the foliage is the dominant subject in the image and my vision of the picture is to exclude the background completely, because I think the light sky and mountains pull the attention away from the subject. There is no right or wrong way to interpret the image. I do like your interpretation, and Isaac's variation on it. Your image has so many possibilities and I hope you don't mind me putting my spin on it. Incidentally, all I did apart from cropping was to use the Shadows/Highlights adjustment in Photoshop and then add a Curves layer to restore contrast. Feb 8th
4 Feb 21 Reply Nice crop Isaac. I wasn't sure about those out of focus red blobs. Feb 6th
4 Feb 21 Comment It is an unusual treatment for a nature image, taking us towards the creative image scene. The bird and reflection have produced a very dramatic shape, but I feel that this should be the starting point for some further creative adventures. I had a little play with the image and got the result here. I duplicated the image layer, flipped horizontal and set the new layer into Difference Blend Mode. There are other interesting possibilities also. One thing I would do is to clone out several black spots in the plain white background before doing anything else. Feb 6th
